jugheaddave Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Hi Had my Schwinn Fast Back Elite for about three months now. Took my bottle cage off to mount a pump yesterday, and realized that the little lug that has the thread in it that is braze/welded onto the frame is turning inside the frame. (I did not over tighten it it came loose when I was loosing the bottle cage) The thread is ok, but the lug has come loos on the frame. Is this repairable, or should I see if Schwinn would replace the frame??
Johan Bornman Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Those lugs are not brazed onto the frame. It is a Rivnut (look it up on Google) and a little bit like a pop rivet. They often do what you describe and it is easily fixable by a good bike shop or the frame suppliler. It is so much easier to fix than rebuilding the bike, which is the best practical reason you shouldn't ask for a new frame. Morally of course the fact that the defect is so small, inconsequential and repairable that asking for a new frame is just unfair.
jugheaddave Posted January 10, 2009 Author Posted January 10, 2009 True, I will look into repairing it. I will ask Schwinn if they can recommend anyone who can do the repair.
Spartan SL Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Take it back where you purchased it, and get them to repair it under warranty. Schwinn will reimburse them, and you do not jepordise your warranty.
jugheaddave Posted January 10, 2009 Author Posted January 10, 2009 Thanks I will talk with them on monday

jugheaddave Posted January 12, 2009 Author Posted January 12, 2009 Thanks guys, I spoke to Lionel form Omnico, and he will sort it out for me. He is going to send down the tool to my LBS, so they can re-rivnut the lug in place. Thanks for the help.
