This is why the rinse is a good idea. Di - Only one link. Mark, there is some truth in the story...if you're an American. In the US, where they call a scone a biscuit, a flapjack a pancake and, a biscuit a cookie, they also confuse paraffin with paraffin wax and refer to the wax as parrafin. In other words, in America, candles are made from paraffin with a wick inside. Weird, but then again, they also call paraffin kerosine. So, in the US they call the semi-hard clear wax the rest of the world calls paraffin wax, just "paraffin". I guess your source was American. If your chain has been boiled in paraffin wax, then oil won't penetrate. In South Africa no-one bothers with that old outdated remedy. However, if the chain has been Squirted, then it will also prevent oil to penetrate. The Star made the same mistake the other day when they simply regurgitated an American story on Sasol's price-fixing shennanigans in Europe. They kept harpering on about the paraffin syndicate and showed pictures of Zimbabweans queuing up with old drums for petrol and paraffin??, saying Sasol's price-fixing affected them. Well, it did, but not in making their stoves more expensive to run but their shoe polish and candles more expensive. It had nothing to do with queuing for fuel. Johan Bornman2009-01-16 04:21:31

Jules Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 I use one of those BBB chain cleaners, which I bought for under R200. I've had it over a year and can vouch for it's effectiveness. I think it beats taking the chain off every ride. I clean my MTB chain after every ride. Road chain gets cleaned only seldomly.
