Think its being made a bigger issue than it really is, anyhow it adds a good mix for competition and spectator interest in future.

they should have sorted this out on the bike' date=' and never mentioned it in public. not good for the sport or sponsors. i also hear that KE is not the most popular guy in the peloton. maybe he got what has been coming to him for a while. lets hope it wasnt some official getting a little over zealous. after all, they are so used to being paid for nothing. maybe this was their chance at the limelight.

Yet another classy first post. 'you hear' KE isn't the most popular? Have you ever even spoken to the man? I'm a rank funrider and he always says hello and has a friendly chat even though I'm a virtual stranger. He does the same with anyone who shows an interest. Why don't you put your name on your unfounded theory, 'Biff'?

I could not agree more.

Over the years of us taking part in the funride side of mtb races KE has demonstrated that he is friendly, considerate and a role model for youngsters. He has time and a smile for everyone from the top to the  bottom and he is a gentleman.

I and my son have chatted to him on numerous occasions and never felt intimidated or inferior.

I think he is greatClap

I think an incident like this is great for the sport. It entices healthy debate and you can be sure next time they race there will be excitement and lots of emotion. The local racing has been a bit sterile and predictable of late.

People should not underestimate the effect that Melt Swanepoel and Mannie Haymans leaving for other teams has had on Kevin Evans. They used to be his enforcers and watched his back. Now efectively he only has David George. It is important to remember I think that KE and BS rode on the same MTN Raleigh team for a few years too.

I am not a racer, just a weekend warrior. I have spoken to Kevin on a number of occasions at races and he seems like a gentleman and a fair competitor. I have not heard of anyone accusing Kevin of negative tactics in a race either.

Everyone needs competition ? it keeps the sport going, fair enough?but referring to the incident of publically bad mouthing fellow riders ? that has got to go! No sport needs that.  Thumbs%20Down  Keep the competition on the road, keep to the rules, play fair and let the legs do the talking?otherwise sooner or later you will have to be tapped over the hand. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Come join me ? I?ll show you some great races, you?ll never complain about excitement again!  Big%20smile

Mountain biking doesn?t need ?incidents? to keep it exciting??pff!

a little bit of "bad blood" can't hurt. why make out that everyone loves each other. robbie hunter may be seen as arrogant and a bit of a motormouth by some, and there's no love lost between him and certain local riders, but no one can say it's bad for the sport.

why don't you tell us all who you are, and we'll come race with youWinkBig%20smile

You like the boys fighting hey?LOL<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Well, dare I say you can?t really compare road to dirt?or maybe I live in a mtb dream world that has long gone...where ?the legends? graced the races with their presence, the envy of any young rider?where friendships are build on the road over fixing a snakebite or helping a fallen comrade..where encouragement is yelled..not insults.. where victory is shared amongst the crowd?were defeat is encouraged by ?well done, next time?..

?where competitions are referred to as ?racing? not ?fighting??

Where your opposition has your respect?.cause in the mountains, on the dirt?.no matter what your strength?we all suffer together..

I'll let you know bout that ride sometime..okWink

i think you summed it up nicely with "a mtb dream world that has long gone". for sure those are great ideals, and the loss of them is one of the reasons i don't line up for many races - there are others, but i won't disgressLOL. while i welcome the massive growth of the sport, this kinda thing is gonna happen more and more. it's even happening midfield these days. for me i believe in the opening lines of roam: "In mountain biking there is no destination, just a bike, a rider, and a place to ride."

see ya out on the trails, dirt*girl?oh, and welcome to the hub!

I think its ridiculous...

Its the first protest in MTB history is SA, and that is probably because we havent had that kind of behaviour on the circuits before...

Yeah sure there is some dirty riding going on out there, but you deal with it and get on with your ride... If you want to take it up with the person you do so afterwards...

That is why they allow you to protest...

precisely...take it up with the person afterwards ... specially if you were both in the wrong. That has always been the way of the mountain bikers. Any issues in the past were resolved like men ! Having raced for 14 yrs I speak from experience.

There are alot of comments going backwards and forwards about who is the nicer person ... I assume these comments are based on the writer knowing both Kevin and Brandon ??

I don't know Brandon apart from his reputation and the above which speaks volumes.

Agreed on the blog ... didnt see any whinging tho. As for the face book group ... that was seriously funny and Im sure just a joke - It really wasnt that bigger deal ... thats the point. The whole thing has been blown WWWWAAAAYYYYY out of proportion. But thats what happens when the punishment doesnt fit the crime like Sean Badenhorst pointed out .... Roel Paulison / Christophe Sauser at World Marathon Champs ... that incident didnt attract punishment as harsh as DQ and that incident was witnessed by thousands of spectators and was live on Eurosport!!

I just checked and the Facebook group seems to have disappeared. Maybe somebody grew up?
