If you can throw your leg over a 21" you welcome to borrow the Spesh Epic you saw or an old RM9 I have lying about.

I remember Cian - waif like girl - she must have some impressive power to weight figures... Please wish her luck from me!

Thanks for the offer, but I'd need to grow up a lot to fit a 21. It's OK, the bike shop has offered me some options.

I'll tell her.

And thanks to the group that helped with a chainbreaker, I turned back after the mud caused havoc with my gears and snapped my chain. Thanks a lot, a little gesture that really stopped me from walkin a looong way!

Did the Police really get mugged or is that just a rumor? Any one know for sure?

Are the muggings still on the go? I ride the spruit alone about 3 time a week and i have never had any problem. Not the cleverest idea, i know.

I ride from Jan Smuts to Emmerentia and do a few laps up there. Usually about 25km's.

Anyone heard of muggings on that section? I know that they were common on the William Nicol - Sunninghill route but never heard of any up the top.

Good to hear.

What is your average speed for that route?

I'm averaging just under 20. Can't seem to make it that little bit faster to get over 20. the hills slow me down so much that i can never get a good average.

Obviously, i'm a long way off from being a pro cyclist!!!

I have never had any hassles anywhere along the Spruit and I've been riding it for the past 5 years before they opened up the vegetation (Bryanston). Those days you could barrel along as fast as you liked coz you hardly ever saw another soul.

I mostly ride up from Jan Smuts (live right there) to Emmerentia and Alberts. We often do night rides and have yet to have a single incident.

I struggle to have a 20km/h average on it. I start at Alberts Farm and go to the top Delta Park then to the top of Republic by the power station, turn around, do Delta park again and through the botanical gardens and back home in Bergbron. It's about 39km.

The Spruit was a mud bath on Saturday.

Judging by the smells emanating from my bike and body' date=' I definitely think though that it wasn't 100% mud Wink

Haven't we told you to stay away from the curries before, Thug?

Phew... Nuke

Yup, was great. Thumbs%20Up

Have 2 request though:

Can riders please try ride a wide bearth round pedestrians and dogs. Saw a guy nearly take himself and a pedestrian out where he rode past a pedestrian. When a pedestrian hears something their natural reaction is to step out of the path as they turn around to see what it is. This will be straight into your path 50% of the time. If you are 2 or 3 steps away he wont be stepping into your path. Slow down as well.

Some guys have been doing a lot of hard graft of the tracks up in the top corner of Emmarentia (much appreciated). This stuff is really fun to ride but needs looking after. Try not skid up and down here.

Rumour. Jhb is tough' date=' but not that tough (yet...)...

Seems to have been quiet recently....

That section falls under Parkview SAPS and is quiet. The last incident with a cyclist was about two years ago where the Spruit crosses Tana Road. There have been scattered attacks on walkers and joggers, so you still need to be careful.

According to the MTB policeman i spoke to they arrested a group of people trying to mug a cyclist the day before the 94.7.

Maybe that is why it's been so quiet. Hope it stays that way.
