Whether you like Lance or not he has got the power to put us on the map. I hope the organisers take cognisance of this.

From Lance's Twitter feed: www.twitter.com/lancearmstrong

Meccarobin Asks:

@lancearmstrong are you doing that race in Cape Town' date=' first week of march? about 9 hours ago from TwitterPod

Lance Responds:

@meccarobin not in 2009, maybe 2010. about 3 hours ago from web in reply to meccarobin

I heard LA might do the Epic (as has already been mentioned on this thread).  Don't you think he may have had the Epic in mind when he replied?  It doesn't look like he was really paying attention (the guy asked him whether he was doing the race in March and he says not this year)  Unless I'm missing some tweating.  Confused

dudes' date=' it'll never happen.

Theres far more interest in watching 30 grown men grope and fondle each other over a pigs bladder than there is in Lance Armstrong or cycling in general.

You forgot this bit:

"..with their IQ numbers on their backs."

There seems to be a fair bit of interest in cycling when rugby players try their hand at it.  Every Epic needs about three rugby players to get the local journo's to write about it...

A couple of journos do write about it, and a couple of photo journalists do shoot it, but like everyone else we need to put food on the table and earn an income.

So unfortunately until editorial staff, publishers and client can see the light, local coverage goes to the so called big three.

The recent MTB World Cup here is a case in point, even the local cycling press did it no justice.

Sponsors like MTN, Nissan etc are pushing the envelope though. So perception is changing, it's a constant battle. Something like LA coming over would be of huge benefit I reckon, especially if he fielded a team of rugby players! Big%20smile

i think i've posted this before?at the wc in pmb, i had a long - and slightly depressing - chat to the well-known afrikaans journo wilhelm de swardt. he told me that with the contraction and "cerntralisation" of the sportsdesks of the news24 papers, he was informed that cycling would not feature much in the group's publications. his focus would have to be on the major sports. thankfully, there are the great previews and reports from the release centre, which some papers carry.
