That would have meant either worldsview or Giro. But no sponsor could be found for one of these events. Although PPA stepped in for Giro. The event was downgraded from UCI2.1 ranking to 2.2. Which means Lance can't ride even if he wants to, as he is part of the protour.Pity none of the corporates could have realised the power behind such kind of sponsorship.Ps: estimated crowd for the 6 days of tour down under to see lance's 1st race was a totaal of 700 000(out of a 12mil population) lining the roads of Australia. [/quote'] If he had committed to riding one of the SA events, the sponsors would have fallen over each other to sponsor them... I heard from a very reliable source that if the UCI hadn't bent the rules for TdU, he would've done World's View Challenge... Just wasn't meant to be. Pity. Easy ... the organisers of the Giro del Capo needs to make a concession for Lance ... his entry fee for the event = double his appearance fee ... this way SA scores at least US$90000 ... Theres far more interest in watching 30 grown men grope and fondle each other over a pigs bladder than there is in Lance Armstrong or cycling in general. If SA as a nation can move past it's greekoroman fantasies then perhaps we can get our cycling events enough sponsorship to be considered worthy internal status.
