My groot skrik!!!!!!

I had a cold while we were in RSA recently and the medication dried the mucous membranes in my nose and sinus cavities. My nose bled a few times in RSA but nothing serious.

Yesterday morning at about six o clock my nose started bleeding profusely after I blew my nose. It just would not stop and was bleeding very seriously. It was so musch that if I pinched the bleeding nostril it would bleed down my throat and also out of the other nostril. By eight o clock it was still bleeding and would not stop when I decided to go to the local hospital. I met Dr Carlos (a Cuban doctor) there. He immediately put me onto a drip and sent a nurse to get medication. The nurse putting in the drip could not find a vein. She eventually found one in my hand. My arm is black and blue today. By about 10 o clock the bleeding stopped. They sent me home by 12 o clock. I was walking like an old man being very dizzy. They said it was the blood loss combined with the medication.

One thing I must say is that through out this whole thing everybody in the Ondjiva Hospital as well as at the rooms of Dr Carlos was doing everything perfectly. They were extremely professional and I was constantly under observation by either a dr or a nurse.

Hope all is well Big H. I once nearly bled to death internally from a ruptured ulcer...brought on by boozing too much uh oh.

Where colds are concerned (I have one now) my approach is to lay off the meds altogether. Hook some vits, of course you're gonna feel unwell, you're sick. Meds just treat the symptoms..

I used Dr Gertges Medicinal Snuff, Vitamin C in copious amounts (Scorbex), tarrentaal pille and ACC 200 efferveccent tablets. I think the change in climate etc just helped.

I must still see the Dr for a follow-up visit sometime today. He went to Oshakati yesterday and will be back today.

Thanx for the well wishes........ I just want to get back on the Tandem and ride ride ride!!!!!!!!

Dr Gertges work wonders....... it clears the sinusses and removes the goo. Tarentaalpille is the old favourite of cyclists..... Sinocot..... laced with ephedrine!!!!!!! if you use too many, that is.

For a runny nose always use stuff to clean and wash it out(snort saline solutions!), or take something to help with the clearing out: ACC200, or Solmucol, both contain n-acetylcistiene (spelling?).

ENT told me to NEVER take something to dry out the sinus cavities - remember it runs to get rid of something nasty!!!

oh, and a healthy persons nasal cavities generate about 500ml of mucus every day - that is what I heard. true or not - not sure.....

Hope you get well soon Big H!!!
