All the wheelsets below are about the same price (CRC as reference)

Mavic - Crosstrial disc (1810g)

Fulcrum - Red Metal 3 (1853g)

Shimano - XT (1710g)

 

Of the three, Mavic and Fulcrum use sealed bearings which is one advantage but the Shimanos are the lightest. All three designs have straight pull stainless steel spokes, SO, the big question: Which would you go for and why??

And if you really cant get anything else. Dont buy the mavics. Rather give up cyclng.

If you have to have sealed bearings but willing to use a tubless convertion strip, look at Token. They are about R3500 and +- 1.7kg. Talk to TokenFreak.
