I am pretty sure the supplier of the bags has to pay KV to hand them out. It is all about brand names and the opportunity to be seen with the CE. That goes for everything inside the goodie bag as well.

My opinion is that it COSTS everyone (excl KV) involved with the media coverage / TV highlights package too much to do a "go beyond the normal call of duty" job. It is simply the nature of how the event is partnered and marketed.

Haven't touched it since, fortunately it has only gained about a minute. I never use the alarm as it is too complicated to set. I had to buy a press-fit Shimano BB the other day (for the first time) and got the best price at cycle lab centurion. I even received the correct part first time, which impressed me to no end. I did not ask for the part # directly, but gave enough clues. I have to give credit to Wyatt who made me aware of all the press-fit possibilities beforehand. And I fitted the BB with a rubber hammer, apparently that is not the way to do it.

Shuddup, it was my first race ever and I have a soft spot for it. River rubbish dump, Allandale broken glass and building rubble n'all.

Buy some water resistant contact glue and fix them up. Should not cost more than a few bucks.

I really like the Wollies beans, only recently realised Tribeca is just around the corner from my home. Pure bliss! I also get very nice results from the beans from Cherry Berry Café in Doringkloof. They only have one type but I like it a lot.

I have had a few fun-filled weeks lately. Had a fall at Magalies Monster (little stream 1km from the end). Punctured my left forearm on something in the water. Small cut but quite deep. Had it cleaned within 5 minutes of incident at medical tent. Went to hospital for decent cleaning and stitches. 4 days later arm starts swelling. Hurts like hell. Fever attacks. Arm turns purple and balloons up like the Michelin man's. Go back to hospital. Diagnosis sepsis. Emergency operation. Then another a few days later. The surgeon said I was lucky, a few days later and I might have become captain Hook. Quite a scary thought...

My bike is alu, seatpost as well. There might be something underneath the ground as well. The overhead cables hang pretty low.

Definitely has something to do with high-voltage power lines. There is a spot in Samrand where it happens to me regularly, I am now prepared and get out of the saddle.

Wifey got me the Aeropress for Xmas. Not yet convinced but have made a decent cup or two. Somewhere between espresso and french press. Will need to experiment a lot more.

It's OK but becomes difficult to pass at 1.5m when going around the bend with the truck appoaching from the opposite side on a road with no shoulder. I am with the OP on this one. He knows those roads well. Sometimes you just have to use common sense when doing that kind of training.

Was travelling yesterday on the N4 highway from Pretoria to Witbank. I encountered 4 road cyclists at Donkerhoek at around 11h45, cycling in the direction of oncoming traffic. I could not make out any particular team kit but they did not look like novices. Immense stupidity.
