Thanks Zaskar. Yup, was cruising down a steep little hill at the time. Somehow managed to land on the crank and get my feet out before serious stitches time. phew...

RM 8.0/9.0/LTD are all full carbon.

This is the RM 6.0. Along with RM 7.0 it has an alu frame with carbon rear stays. Just concerned of getting the same bike now in case this is a regular occurence. Obviously the join between the alu and carbon is not fantastic.

That's some serious damage, glad you came out unscathed.

There will always be a potential weak point where carbon joins aluminium.

Just as a matter of interest what do you weigh? (PM if you you don't want to post it here). Just want to know cause I'm on a 7 at the moment and don't want the same happening to my fat ass.

Must have been quite a klap as the front wheel came out too. Wink

Also let me know if it was a big klap that made that happen.

Just a Q to all that might know. Will the frame supplier, in this case Raleigh, also replace everything else that broke due to the frame collapsing?

Raleigh and Linden Cycles are on the task already of sorting out the situation. Thus far, they've been nothing but amazing. I'll keep you posted as to the outcome but not saying anything until I have a concrete answer.

Gnarly...I'm a large lad. 90.

When I was hunting last year I looked at the RM6, the carbon rear stays were a major concern. I could only suspect that where the Carbon joins to the Aluminium would be a weak link, you pic seems to further the case.

If you think of the stresses going through those joints (carrying much of your weight plus the incidentle weight of bumps, dips, jumps), with carbons ability to flex a bit, it just seems unlikely it is a durable solution.

I'm glad Raleigh and Linden are working on sorting you out, but I would be hesitant to hop on one of these frames. If this happened on a fast long descent, eg. Breedsnek, you would have been in serious trouble.
