Have stripped my bike for a clear coat on the frame. While I am at it I have decided to give my Fox Fork a new lease on life. I want to respray it white.

Anyone have any tips on how to go about this? Going to strip it down totally and cover the stanchions and steerer tube for the crown. Where can I get replacement decals?

take it apart completely. Buy some acetate from a hobby shop and cut it exactly the circumference of the inside of the leg and let it extend about 50mm above the opening. Tape it down on the inside. Now plug the top so that nothing can get in.

Getting replacement decals is no prissy. It's befitting of a brand bunny, not you.

Get flames or daisies or skulls or spiderman or fake mud or shark teeth bites or eyeballs or bamboo stalks or camo or cockroaches or something.

what I mean is that you put the acetate in side the leg like a tube. Let it extend past the opening like the stanction would have been. Plug the top with cling wrap so that just or paint don't get in side.

I am a brand bunny out of the top drawer. That daisy idea sounds good but people might think I am riding a Rock Shox.Confused

Mampara,

when you say take it apart, does that mean after you have resprayed you need to replace seals, wipers, shock oil etc ??

I will replace as a matter of course. No use going to all that trouble to put used bits back in.

Yes, you can't respray with the stanchions and seals in. They need to be completely removed.

no, before yo ustart stripping the paint and repainting it needs to be in pieces. The crown with the stanctions should be nowhere near where you are painting. And the insides of the legs should not see paint either. That is why you need the acetate. When you re-assemble you can fit new parts.

transparency. like the codger teachers used to use at school

Would packaging tape work?

you can use anything as long as it is smooth, makes a good seal. If you can get plastic medicine canisters that fits it will be perfect. The normally taper a bit to the bottom and is sealed already. Stick in the bottom first.
