Although I do wonder what caused the discolouration on Dirtbreath's carbon.

It is quite common for clearcoat to go opaque in the presense of heat and moisture. You see this when you leave a hot cup on a lacquered or polyurethane-coated table. You also see this when you cover your car with one of those plastic covers and moisture is trapped between the plastic and paint. These stains are permanent and penetrate the entire layer of clearcoat.

yip, thats what I was thinking. Nicely put. So then the solution is as said above by someone, tape the chainstay before you rubber wrap it.
