Should have been initiative.  Embarrassed

I have already spoken to:

Cyclelab (Dawid Labuschagne)

Fritz Pienaar (Irwin)

Epic Cycles (Andre Cordes)

Pierre Mel(?) formerly of "DADS"

I did not mention the hub.

Each one of them was extremely enthusiastic and each expressed themselves to be more than willing to become involved.

I now want to speak to the SAPS guys in Randburg who patrol on The Spruit. I will try to set up a meeting between all of the above and Director Andre Wiese at Irene SAPS.

Jagwil' date=' how will being involved be good business for the bike shops and what will they get out of it? How can someone like me help?

PS: what is "INITIAVE"?

I think that we NEED to start some form of INITIAVE particularly in the Centurion area to try to keep the cycling there reasonably safe.

Each of those bicycle shops has a cycling club and they cycle regularly in that area. They all agree that safety is of great concern to them and believe that they should become involved in making mountain biking in the Centurion area safer.  I think that they all realise that if cycling is no longer safe people will no longer buy bicycles at the same rate.

What can we as individuals do to help?

                                            UPDATE. UPDATE

I spoke to Superintendent Hein van Heerden at SAPS Randburg today. He is in charge of the group that patrols The Spruit. He said that he would be more than willng to assist with setting up a similar group in Centurion. He indicated that I must just let him know when.

I also had a call from Charl Theron at Fiitz Pienaar in Centurion this morning. He said that FP in Centurion as also a number of people who cycle with them are also keen to get involved.

Finally I had a chat to Dir.Andre Wiese who is also still very enthusiastic about the whole INITIATIVE. He is, however, tied up until the end of next week with a mad rush of firearm licence applications. He did ask me to call him again next week to set up a "strategy" meeting to discuss the setting up of an SAPS cycle group to patrol the Centurion area.

If anyone out there would like to become involved please PM me your e- mail address so that I can include you in any meetings. .

I also live and ride in Centurion area, but mostly head to Groenkloof for safety.

If there has come nothing of the SAPS comms then there needs to be a little more comms on the Hub and in association with FPC and CL who generally ride in these areas.

I am tired of riding where i need to be armed in case of jacking, we rode through a jacking some months ago and all was fine, buts its uncalled for.

The SAPS need to come ride with us to see whats up. FPC are doing ride on Teusday and Thursday morning as well as Saturday mornings, we should get the two goups together.

If all else fails get guns, knives, ketties, bottlles anything and fight back and defend.
