I've had two good experiences recently.

Last week my mate and I were riding through Constantia (we were not single file) anda taxi drove up behind us and politely blipped his hooter (believe it or not) so we moved across in single file. As he came past I waved and got a flick of the hazards from him!

This morning I was on my way back home' date=' approaching a traffic circle. I could hear a car behind me. The driver seemed reluctant to pass me, so I waved him past. He  drove round me with smiles and waves all round.

As I've said on one of these threads - if each of us makes small gestures we can only improve the driver-cyclist relationship.

I commute occasionally and on this one road the cars are hesitant to overtake me but the great thing is that people mostly smile and flash hazards when I wave them past. Also, occasionally in traffic people move to the right to allow me to pass. Fine, you do get the twot who intentionally comes into your side but hey, most people are cool. For the others, a dent in the doorLOL

good and bad this past weekend.

"The bad" - On saturday morning our "club ride" was involved in a incident with a motorist who cut across our training bunch when crossing the road.

there were almost windless conditions so the speed was between 37 - 40 kph and the guys and gals were working thru and off (wide shoulder and safe road conditions). The motorist took a chance to cross, becos the car coming up towards him was going fast (his excuse) and he didn't realise how fast the cyclists were riding. anyway this action caused everone to break hard and we had one guy fall and break a thumb. "the good" , another motorist who realised that something was amiss, stopped and loaded our club member into his bakkie and drove him to the Mediclinic and stayed with him until he was sorted with medical care.

NCR - but thanks to ALL the pta drivers who waited patiently without the usual hooting and temper tantrums today for Bernadine Kruger's (the girl killed by the taxi on her way to school) funeral
