Naah' date=' Mace and Glock not really necessary. Groenkloof is still reasonably safe but don't venture into Fountains alone or without Mace and Glock.

Don't use tyre liners... It is very kewl to pull a small thorn out your wheel, hear it deflate (see the green slime bubble out), spin the wheel around twice, and Voila! no leak anymore, just a green dot on the outside of the wheel LOL Liners will just spoil all that fun! (Just remember to leave the bigger thorns in the tyre undisturbed, or pull them out only once when safely at home (in the garden is even better!)

ok now i'm a bit concerned about the tyre liners and slime.

what is it and what brands are there and what are the pros and cons, etc.

i've got friday off so i'll have time to go get this stuff but it might be all for nothing if my car isn't back from the workshop by then. :(

Slime is a make of sealant product. Essentially its the liquid stuff you pour into a tube. everybody calls it slime although you have different brands. Let your LBS direct you as to what brand to buy as everybody will swear by the brand they use. However try and get 'Slime' as you cant go wrong really there.

Tyre liners are cheap. R25 a set if memory serves. they fit between tyre and tube. Just pick up a set at the shop when you buy the sealant.

I did Mashatu last year with Tyre liners and Slime fitted and didnt have a puncture despite having the tyres unbelievably riddled with thorns.

all sounds very complicated - not so sure you need to take a whole Friday off to get ready for a ride?? another spare tube and you're set... Cool experience is still the best teacher. oh, and enjoy dusting off your bmx skills!
