So the letter from FP explains that they did not meet to collude on price-fixing, but rather discus the shopping habits of their significant-other and its effect on cycling in sunny SA?

Where is smoke there is fire. Period.

I wonder if anybody has forwarded any of this to the international companies represented by our local sharks? Not? Why not? Maybe it is time to do some rearrangements in who represent whom.

Oh, and the nonsense that you need to have VOLUME to be able to offer prices fairly in line with the world. They are poor businessman if they can not negotiate better pricing from the source (especially now: recesion), or simply to greedy. In other industries manufacturers have minimum pricing policies to prevent distributors from different geographical locations compete with each other, I don?t see reason why cycling should be different.

BTW I don?t mind all the shop owners driving Porsches, as long as I would pay the internationally comparable price plus the duties/VAT & shiping.

it always suprises me how brave people are when they dont leave there names on there profiles' date='if you want answers be brave and put your names on your profiles,in fact i propose that the hub makes it a  must[/quote']

I disagree. 99% of what gets spoken about here is idle banter and the annonimity makes the discussions more interesting than they otherwise would be.

This topic unfortunately involves well known figures in the cycling industry whose identities are well known. This makes them sitting ducks for abuse/praise.

An offer was made by AM last year when this thing first flared up to contact him personally. This was an opportunity to air your views with him face to face on a personal level. I took this opportunity and was amazed that he made the effort to respond. Not a 2 liner but a mail which with my typing skills would have taken forever. This led to meeting him face to face and I can personally say that he is one of the nicest people I have had the pleasure to meet.

Unfortunately my opinion of the man counts for squat where the CC is concerned and as has been said ad nauseum here the facts need to be known.

I feel so privileged to belong to a forum of such well informed individuals - not only are they specialists in their field, but in their free time they have studied in the intricacies of the cycling industry.  They know exactly what the cost price of a certain item is, as well as the mark up on the item.

They also know what the running cost of a cycling shop is and the breakdown of income between income from servicing of bikes and the selling of new bikes.

They also have the ability to know what was said on a meeting without actually being on the meeting.

I feel truly blessed.

Yes Mamparra - my 22nd post gave me a lot of pleasure, but I think my 23rd will give me greater pleasure - what does that have anything to do with the topic - does my opinion count less than somebody with 11000 posts.

So one of the people of the "form" was there - it does not change my opinion that most of the posts about this topic are made by people who has no idea what's really going on in the industry.

So far I've yet to comment on the topic but it seems to me that a lot of people are ignoring 2 important FACTS

- A meeting was held to discuss the raising of profit margins, and

- Holding such a meeting is in terms of the law ILLEGAL

What Messrs Maclean and Pienaar have done for the sport of cycling is totally irrelevant.

[Did you enjoy your 22nd post?]

Totally uncalled for MAMPARA! Does the 11859 posts you have make you feel superior or does it make your views more important. You must be a real Mampara for spending so much time on The Hub. Shame - no other interests/ hobbies and evidently very few friends (if any). Oh and yes, I am thoroughly enjoying my 2c worth

DITTO.

The mere fact that people speak (post) does  not actually mean that they really know what they are talking about now does it.
