buyer rating system

everyone (incl me) has been asking for a buyer rating system.

perhaps a good idea would be to mesh out how exactly it works.

obviously you dont want the system to be abused. So just because I have a personal grudge against XYZ, can i rate him as a bad buyer?

how are we going to handle those scenarios.

lets put some ideas together and then go to admin with an exact specification of what we want

how about the same as ebay. 3 ratings- positive, neutral, negative and a small space for feedback.

If you include some kind of feedback on each rating then it would make it harder for someone just to randomly give someone a bad rating. I think something like this would allow sellers to build up their credibility behind a nickname, and allow bad sellers to be isolated. Perhaps also make it necessary that to sell items you need to provide your personal details, even if those details remain private or only for admins eyes etc.

I think a buyer rating linked to a comments page on your profile should be created similar to e-bay. You will have a rating shown next to your name on the ad and a link to comments from buyers that explain their ratings and provide the seller the opportunity to respond - 1 brief comment per transaction, no further comments permitted. If you have more to say, then start an actual forum about it.

I was going to suggest that before you can post in classifieds you need to provide proof of address and personal details. a scanned copy of an edgars account or telkom account or something like that

How about you rate the buyer out of 5 and the seller out of 5, depending which side you are on.

That way, if one person has a personal gripe, it will not have a huge impact on his score?

Maybe the points can be added to his profile, like

Wernervdmerwe

Buyer Score - x/5 (based on x votes)

Seller Score - x/5 (based on x votes)

So you know how often the guy sells - therefor how accurate the score is.

Only other thing, is will people actually vote when they got good service or only when they get bad ones?

then it starts getting very complicated. you can no longer write a message with a price offer in it.

you need to build a full buying/selling system

ok fand. buyers rate sellers only? would that be easier?

i think the main reason that a rating system hasnt been implemented is because its not that easy.

how do you know if someone is a buyer?

How do you know if someone is a seller?

admin will have to look at a full buying/selling module for the hub, with a list of sellers, and a list of buyers.

If you want to buy an item, you need to register as a buyer for sale #123456.

only the person that the goods are sold to can rate the sale. only the seller can rate the buyer.

but it boils down to the fact that we need a full buying/selling system that tracks sellers, buyers, sales, etc etc

Fand, another potential issue, is then you open the buying and selling section to a whole lot of other people who just wanting to sell. Does this not run the risk of becoming another "gumtree" then ?

On another forum where I am you get a rating and thank system. You only see the iTrader rating when you are in the classifieds section. When you rate someone, you have to leave some comment aswell.
