On weekends and public holidays a few of us (8 to 10 riders) take a

ride from Kyalami Estate starting at 07:00 AM, past Northern Farm at 07:40 AM, through the Cradle of

Humankind, we stop and check out some hidden caves, and then ride

towards Harties. We start riding the loop back 25km before reaching

Harties through the Cradle of Mankind back to the famous Home of the

Chicken Pie close to Kromdraai. There we stuff ourselves with the best

home made chicken pie money can buy, milk tarts, fudge, energy drinks,

water, etc. and start heading back. Turning left at Lanseria passing

Northetrn Farm all the way back to Kyalami. Total distance is

approximately 110km with about 1200m ascent (info from a fellow rider

with a Garmin). Avg speed about 19km/h without the stops. Total hours spent on the rides are ussually 5 to 6 hours (including the stops). Most times it was so lekke we feel 'mal' enough to ride the route

clockwise the next day if it's a Sunday Ouch. I have provided a

link to google maps to zoom in and have a look at the landscape. (I dont

have a Garmin, ..yet)

Some photos with my Nokia E65 (not the best of photos, but it's ok)

Sounds interesting - worried about joining a group riding 5-6 hours without Camelbacks.....

Tried to see your route - can not see the red dots!

This map marking should be better.

PS: 2 x water bottles, fill it up 3 times on the route, sweets, gells, spares (inner tubes with slime) and bombs in our back pockets (per rider). We all ride ust with slime.

It's lots of fun. If you don't mind being pulled, pushed, bumped, kicked, thrown with a dead poffadder or being sprayed with water by some oke speeding through the river sections Big%20smile

Some of the riders in our group meet up with us at Northern Farm as there is secure parking and we can refresh on drinks and food. Starting from Northern Farm shortens the route by 30km (15km to Kyalami from Northern Farm).

Soooo...when we doing this ride again? Maybe we should call it CPR (the Chicken Pie Run), b/c of all the pies we chow half way on route Big%20smile Post in this thread to inform and update Hubbers Wink

We start at 07:00 from Kyalami Estate main gate, pass through Beaulieu main gate at 07:15 and reach NF (Northern Farm) entrance at 07:50. Leave NF at 08:00 sharp for the CPR. How does that sound?

Should be back at NF between 12:00 and 13:00. We have tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday to choose from.
