Just a word of caution..... if what you order is seen that a full bike can be assembled from it you will pay the import duties of a complete bike. What that is I do not know.

When ordering apparel, remember you cannot exchange it if you do not like the fit or colour. Make sure, as with bicycle spares, that you order correctly. The ethics of going to a Bicycle shop to check for fit is questionable, but you you choose as such to do it so be it. I personally will not order shoes, saddles, shades, helmets and clothing from overseas. I source that locally.

Very helpful for the Rookies in need of stuff from CRC - thanks Ngala24. I've been caught out by customs on electronic goods and it wasn't a happy ending - getting stuff confiscated never is.

I always pay the courier guy. Make sure you have the cash ready. He also doesn't have change so expect to leave him a tip if you cant get the exact amount.

Hi pd...  Thanks for the info, did you also pay the UPS guy?  Also, if possible, could you perhaps tell me what the difference was from what you paid CRC, to that what you paid the UPS guy?

Thanks

I paid $30 for Hudz from the States. I didn't have to pay VAT or customs duties at the post office! Lucky me.

i would like to order a groupset from the states, I know it's duty free but will i have to pay VAT if they are sent with an express company like UPS etc to my door?

I have bought loads of items send ordinary mail through USPS and then they get to cape mail and get taxed...

My question is really - do UPS packages go through Cape Mail if they are door to door delivery?

Customs charge the VAT on the products, not the mailing company.  All items need to go through customs, and they charge you.  I paid 14% VAT plus an additional 10%, for what that was, I'm not sure, just glad I got my stuff Big%20smile

Wow thanks for the original post ngala24. I am going to USA for a trip and might bring back a bike as their big clearance sales are on at the moment.

Looking at the customs info it seems I will have to pay 15% duty tax for the complete bike.

However i see one of the previous posts mentions that if the looses parts can be assembled to make a bike thats then the tax is applicable.

Here is my question. I am traveling with my wife, if i would to give her the wheels, seat and handlebars and some components, and i take the frame fork and what is left will that work to bypass the complete bike scenario? As far as i could see there was no duties for the loose components.

I am trying to work out my budget to see how much i have to reserve and by how much i can squeeeeeeeez my budget for the bike

Cape Mail would not release my CRC order.  They insisted that I get a clearing agent to clear the goods for me.  This was another R 200.00
