something I'd like to add: guys coming up on riders from the rear NEED TO HAVE RESPECT AND PATIENCE. It's NOT a race. Some sections of trail have multi technical level bits. I was at Tokai the other day coasting through a section lining up for a nice drop when some lycra clad TONTO comes screaming up behind me to take the easy line. He totally stuffed up my run. Next time I wont let it slide.

So basically everybody needs to adjust to the way YOU ride so YOU can have the best time?

My advice to YOU is this: less "I'm a way cool like totally rad downhiller dude" and more "team player"... Use it - don't use it...

YES

oooh, management talk...I LIKE IT!!!

Nope, I'm not  team player.

bustthevomit, why did you let it slide that time? Why didn't you pull that lycra clad TONTO of his bike and teach him that you have the right to decide when and how you ride the trails and that everyone else has to bow down to your obvious wisdom about all things mountain biking...

Please, please, I beg of you to grant me the honour, oh exalted one, of being the poor slob who is puffing uphill when you are screaming downhill in your state of euphoria, the next time I am in CT?

I will make sure to immediately throw my bike to the left, as far of the trail as I can, and make sure that my forehead touches the ground as you go whizzing by...

After all, the guru of all things MTB deserves such respect surely..

Something tells me that KDEE is being sarcastic, I just can't figure out exactly what.... Confused

Hey did you ever get that bike sold? Did you get new bikes for your offspring?

Hijack on,

Yes I did Hog, thanks very much. Lighties are now sporting two very high end BMX race bikes and I am riding a clunkerConfused

But this last weekend racing showed it was all worth it. Would rather see my kids ecstatic than myself.

Of course, my dear child. Please let us know when you will be in JHB to ride, so I can warn all the unworthies to please be aware that the guru will be coming through..

Of course I cant talk for the more aggressive riders that wont take too kindly to this unquestioned fact that the guru must be allowed to do whetever he wants, but we can cross that bridge we come to it.... actually no, I will just destroy the bridge before we come to it as to not let your exlated highness get bored by riding over it...

But of course, gurus of MTB like yourself have muscles as big as their mouths, so there should really be no problem with agrresive riders... These non mover outer of the wayer lycra clad Tontos must be taught the sickness..

personally i yield for the guy coming downhill... i cant recall it being the other way around when im going down, generally the guy going up try and move out the way. i think it is because he has more time and we're just about always pushing the limits and out of control. Tongue

i have to be honest most of the time we both just slow down and pass each other.Maybe its all part of  a conspiricy to widen single tracks and promote wide bridges.

i suggest try and yielding for the guy coming down. Going down a track is where most the fun is. Next time he'll hopefully open the track for you. (dont really care if he thanks or not)

I vote to yield for the guy that is going the fastest Clap

Hee heee..me too. Riders coming downhill should get the right of way?. Most riders welcome the quick stop before continuing with the climb...never mind what they make you believe about killing their momentum. If it?s such a big deal?turn around and start over. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I always yield for the rider coming down the hill, I hate to spoil their fun.

Unless you are trying to ride up a downhill track, getting going again on the uphill is no big issue.

I find when I'm on a downhill, its quite noisy and I often don't hear the people coming uphill.  If you go round a switchback and as you are leaving suddenly meet people going the other way, its difficult to stop and unclip in time.  If you are going uphill its generally quite and you can easily hear the people coming downhill and it gives you plenty of time to find a spot to pull over.

the following scenario doesnt make sense to me...

....imagine screaming down single track +30km/h, seeing a rider approaching going up, slowing down(dragging your back wheel for effect), stopping, clipping out, pulling your bike to the side, stand and wait while listening to a rider huffing and puffing like an ox in heat*(in this story they can)* while struggling at -9km/h up hill. (and a smothered !thaankyou!) Smile

I hate being that "Ox in heat", so I tend to let the dudes coming down have right of way, and enjoy a couple secs breathing time. Wink

So - all the oxen out there had better make way, or face being butchered!LOL

hahaha, I like all your thinking. especially Mellow. That scenario you described is EXACTLY why DESCENDERS HAVE RIGHT OF WAY.

The irony of KDEE's little "I'm so superior" rant is that he is actually showing himself to be 'Mr.Cool' with all the hard and fast RULES. A right Tonto at the other end of those posts. Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. Leave the jokes to Barry Hilton dude, and even HE sucks donkey nuts....

makes sense to me!..I stop if I?m going up and I hear a rider coming down?it?s the obvious thing to do.  And the same happens when I?m coming down?.I make sure I give a loud ?thank you? when I pass though. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
