i was riding at northern farms the other day, when i saw a group of about 10 riders jumping the fence.

was wondering if the entry fee was really THAT high that they couldn't afford to pay it. they all seemed to ride rather nice bikes. it costs about the same price than a cupuccino.

Someone has to maintain those tracks, build new ones, signpost them - and fix the damaged fences. and if it gets too expensive, it will be the paying riders who will have to cough up higher entrance fees.

i love riding there ... i like the safe environment, the fun singletrack, the fact that i can ride there on my own, the coffeeshoppie ... please don't spoil this for me by trying to save a few pennies on entry fees

The costs to ride at Northen Farm is very low - R9.00 per entry if you get a card. I agree with cat-i, people like this spoil it for those that use the farm, pay and enjoy it.

I doubt the guys were jumping the fence to skimp on costs. There are numerous tracks outside of NF and it really is nice to explore a bit more than NF can offer. The gate on the Northern side just East of the graves is sometimes open but not always.

Agree with Dirtbreath...Its not the money issue, everyone rides the tracks outside NF around Lanseria/hennops area, and they probably parked at NF and paid there entry to get in, but are on there way back to the park.

I think NF is great and thank-you to all the guys who keep it in tact.Big%20smile

Funny that no-one ever complains when you climb the fence on your way out, but always on the way back.....NF only has so much riding and serves as an excellent base for which we dont mind paying on the long outrides.

k, point taken.

but then why not go out and back in through the entrance? and arrange with the guard there some kind of entry-back - jumping fences damages them.

The entrance is on the South side. Not that great to get around to the Northern side, plus there is the highway in the way. I would also not like to ride that road on a bike. Russian Roullette.

You are correct - people should not climb the fences.

The entrance is right next to the road on which the riders are riding, and there is a bridge over the freeway. No reason to jump the fence. I know at some stage they left the gate at the back open, but that obviously is a risk, so go round through the entrance, turn left down the tar road. After the bridge, it becomes dirt and you are on the same road that takes you over the river and up the hill.

cat-i has spoken! We need that inspirational smile back on her face so pay up or prepare to receive a 'Theo Bos' next time you're passing her!

Maybe we should make a fence rule ... if you can't clear it, don't climb it :-)

I think cat-i was more upset at people gaining access than climbing over/through the fence. There is a pedestrian gate we use when we go north from there, that dirtroad next to N F is crappy, long, straight and cars blasting past at high speed.

The is a pedestrian gate, one of those notches in the fence on the west side of the farm. Its always open, go right along the road and you end up in hills and dales...
