  1. Some 'entrepreneurs' started charging cars for parking but once this was reported, the SAPS arrested the group.
  2. Why is the assumption that an eBike = no skills? I have a road bike, MTB and EMTB and have been riding for more than 20 years. I don't change skill level when I change bikes (well I hope not)
  3. I think it’s a bit like a golf handicap, a lower handicapper can still enjoy a game of golf with a pro. Without that you would have to be similar skilled to enjoy the game (ride)
  4. Hi - A Scott eride 920 (at the CycleLab sale). I paid more than my wife thought you would pay for any bike but she does not ride!!! Why - been riding for more than 20 years and done many many races (mainly road but also MTB) but now I want to enjoy cycling, find new trail and do it for the love of cycling. I still have my road and MTB bike but this bike is to enjoy cycling without taking it too seriously.
  5. So I joined the e-bike trend yesterday by buying a new bike, I now understand what the fuss is about. It’s a similar feeling when I changed from road to MTB. It is an amazing ride and found I still used the same energy, just went way further. I know this is not for everyone but if you haven’t tried it, go for it, it will not disappoint.
  6. So I did this last year after staying on bronze for a few years. I went to gold in a year by collecting points wherever available. A health assessment does give plenty points but its dependent on the results. The more categories your pass, the higher the score. Your weekly goal only increases as you meet your weekly goal to a max of 900 points. This is the problem, you need to get points every week. But as you get points, your goal keeps increasing. But if you start now its not that hard to get to Gold
  7. While he can only move diagonally
  8. With the Apple watch 4 being announced and available soon in SA, how long does it take for Discovery to add the new devices to their program Thanks
  9. Also got the R100 reward. Wonder if any one spun the wheel and got one of the larger prizes?
  10. Yes mine sat at 900 and then slowly started to drop by 50 points a week to 650. Now that I have started training again I guess it will start moving back.
  11. I read some of these comments that suggest the organisers profit if the race was cancelled and this was some of their motivation. No one wins when the race is cancelled (organisers, participants and sponsors) It must have been the absolute last resort to make this call. And on that point, the final call does not come from the organisers, it will come from the VOC commander who has input from police, disaster management, medical, the organisers and others.
  12. Hi all Thanks for the comments re the start layout. We have a layout issue at Riversands which makes it difficult to do a cut and paste of the CTCT. CT has a shorter/fatter venue with access from all sides into the start pens. We have a long thin venue with little or no tarred access from the sides. We also have a river that cuts the venue into 2 with no access from all people arriving from the North, access to the back of the start. We have to allow these people access after the river. ( so two access points) Lastly, the finish is on the same road as the start pens with the front finishers arriving long before the last starter have access their start pens. Every year we look at improving the start design with the layout of the venue. There are some access roads we could use but not tarred, if it did rain they could be mud. So we honestly try ever year to improve (the electronic signs made a big difference) but welcome any positive ideas. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I agree with you. I compare these people to Jhb taxis, they feel they have some special right to go ahead of others that follow the system. We try load groups in order, we have people stopping those who enter early. But some enter in order but then move ahead a clog the system. We do dnf riders who start ahead of their group but don't have the manpower to police those 'special' cyclist who feel their right to be in the front of the group is above those that follow the process. Sorry just a sore point for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Check with lost and found. A number of items were handed in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Using new electronic signage this year to indicate the groups that are currently loading and which 2 groups are next. Should make it easier to wait in the holding area until the sign shows your group is ready to load. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. As I mentioned in another post, the R521 from Diepsloot should be way better this year. It's now a one way from the highway to the venue from about 3:30 to 10:00. This should make a difference Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. This year a lot of work has been done to improve access from the north. The R511 will be south bound only from the highway, passed Diepsloot to Mandini road (starting at about 3:30). This will revert to a two way after the start process has finished. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. From the steep downhill on the R55 it's a sharp turn to the right, keep right and under the new bridge. Now in the centre of the track you enter the track at the old pits. Up the hill towards Leeukop and down the mine shaft. Past the new pits and then right off the track at a gate. Past the AA premises towards the main gate. There is a water point as you leave Kyalami turning right to again join the R55. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. The speed bumps are still there but have had a layer of tar over them to make them less harsh. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Hi So this year we will be trying something new At circle 7 we will have a large electronic sign indicating the groups that are currently loading and the groups that will load next. You can wait in the area between circle 6 and 7 and watch the signs. Please don't try go ahead of your group as you just clog the area for the groups ahead.
  21. You wont need your phone when you run - the Apple watch HR monitor will track your run and you will get the points no problem.
  22. I think the organisers need to be complimented for not canceling the race but finding a solution at the 11th hour. The amount of work going into an event in the last few days is enormous without the need to change the route with only days to go. They should get support under these circumstances for something that was forced on them by events out of their control. I would hope that the cycling community show support rather than complaining. To those that ride I hope you embrace the day and still enjoy it.

    Cricket......

It was a nice touch to see that the rugby games this weekend had a minutes silence for Phillip Hughes. Nice to see respect shown across sports.
  24. It was a great ride and was better managed than I thought it would be. The Soweto traffic was interesting but special to go to Vilakazi street. The route was nothing like what was posted on the Web but glad I did it and will do it again next year (if it's on)
