Hi' date=' i would just like to know is it save to make use of Cyclesures Online Application?

[/quote']

My experience, yes. They ask only information that is required and asked to be contacted by email. No pesty sales calls. I give them a 10 out of 10. Just finalising my house insurance this month (another story) but looks like Cyclesure it is for me for the bike.

Asked my LBS about them and he has never heard anything bad about them - this LBS handles its fair share of insurance claims.

I agree with the guys that suggest including it in your household policy. This is what I have done with SA Eagle. When I crashed my bike last year, my left Campy Record shifter cracked, right one was badly scratched, they paid for a replacement of the set with no excess. My insurance broker knows that I care for my bike far more than my car - it ranks much higher on my policy!

But what if you dont have something like a household policy, im 21 yrs old and i just want to cover my bike, can i depend on Cyclesure to replace my broken parts if say next week i end up in a bike crash?

Yah, Insurance is a numbers game, the more you insure with a company, the better your rate OVERALL, thats why most want your householders business as well.

That said, I dont know cyclesure, everything I insure with M & F cars, motorbikes, household contents, business, bicycles - everything, and my rates are very favourable.

All I say is, in my opinion I would only use the blue chip insurers like, Santam, M & F, SA Eagle etc and I stay clear of direct insurers. When a broker is involved like with the blue chip guys, you dont have to do the fighting for a claim, the broker dos, and because he brings huge business to an insurer, he generally has a lot more clout than you as a private individual.

As Mutual and Federal says in their brochure - "If you really want to know how good your insurer is - CLAIM!!"

So only having Cyclesure would be a waste of money basically?

No, not necessarily, maybe just more expensive.

You say you dont have other insurance?, perhaps it would be worthwhile to ask your folks or someone if you can include your bike on their household policy, its itemised so you could just pass over the insured value to them monthly if its an issue.

Having it on a householders policy gives you a better rate and leverage with the insurer, think about it, were you an insurer would you rather insure a high risk item like a bike only, or include the bike in a low risk policy including house contents, fire, etc  - this spreads the risk a bit for them and they generally offer a better premium.

Yes, usually this will be the case. A bicycle is a reletively high risk item, without a spread of low risk lines (householders) to compensate the insurer, he will be obliged to charge more.

Ok porky thanks that makes sense. But with my budged its cheaper for me to e.g pay R200 for my bike alone pm rather to pay R600 for my bike, car, laptops, tv ect. I dont wnt to spend such an amount on ensurance atm.

The only thing that is not so leka for me is; i only have my bike ensured at Cyclesure.. Can i now go and ride my bike as hard and fast as i want knowing that if i happen to end up in a crash that they would fix my bike?

Im just scared that i crash my bike and they dont want to help me.

Cyclesure is a gr8 insurance. Just make sure when you get ur replacement qoute, its from the bikeshop where you want to get ur bike or spares from. Cyclesure pays the shop out not the insurer. Brokers don't always work. Our broker gets a broker fee to do nothing. We still chased up our own claims and progress. You can go through cyclesure without a broker.

Willfull damage will always be excluded, as will negligence, for example you leave your bike laying on the driveway overnight and it gets stolen -  thats negligence, not gonna pay, or you take a road bike through a BMX track at full tilt and it breaks the frame, thats willfull damage, - not gonna pay, - okay both extreme cases but you will get the idea.

You will always be obliged to ensure you take "appropriate" care to prevent loss through theft and take "reasonable" care in usage (ie) only use the bike for the purpose it was intended.

So basically an "all risks" policy will cover you for most "natural" eventualities that may arise, providing you can prove you did not willfully damage the product, and cover you for theft providing you took all due precautions to prevent loss, (ie) kept it in a locked garage at night etc.

No, they sent me a quote for what I requested on their site. They also

sent the actual application form where I detail various items, ie: LBS,

Bike, Camelbak ...

Just ask for a quote as their are no obligations.
