Hi all

I need some advice. Is this a good buy for a newbie??????

Raleigh road bike (orange and Black. Guys im new too the Bike world LOL)

Groupset Campagnolo Chorus. 8 Speed cassette.

Carbon Fork

Look Pedals.

New Selle seat.

Campagnolo Vento G3 wheels

Price R3700

Is this a good price. Bike just been serviced.

I dont know the year model and its a 45cm.

The specs you mention here don't seem to add up to a standard Raleigh,  more like a custom build. I think the only Raleighs that have 8 speed cassettes are the RC2000's and they have a full Sora groupset. The nice thing about the standard Road Raleighs are they for the most part carry a full Groupset, be it Sora, Tiagra... No mixing and matching, did see the 08 RC3000 Carbons had Sora calipers and all else Tiagra.

I have an 06 RC3000 - great looking bike, Tiagra groupset. I paid R2950 I think at the time, in my mind a bit much for an 06 RC3000, but considering what people are trying to sell them at now, it may have been a bargain.

If you can get an RC3000 at a good price ~R3000.00 go for it, it will take you sometime before you can say the bike is holding back your race times.

Campag 8 speed? I'm not too clued up with Campag, but 8 speed sounds rather out dated, meaning spares could be an issue. Even the most entry level of Campag components have been running 10speed for a number of years now.

Are you sure that it is 8 speed? The 2006 Raleigh RC6000 had a Campag version with a 10 speed Veloce groupset. It was also orange and black. If so, then that price is an absolute bargain.

This does seem to fit Dhaafier's description....

Dhaafier does this look like the bike in question? If so I agree with Eugene, a good price, just wonder about that oddly placed 8 speed cassette!

Daxiet, you seem to know quite a bit about the raleigh. If you could get a RC3000 (2005) for R2500 would you go for it? There is one available, im thinking to take it but need some advice 1st. Thanks

I don't know much about the pre-2006 RC3000's I have seen a couple for sale but wouldn't buy one myself. Just feel Raleigh started to arrive in 2006 and have produced good road bikes since.

The other consideration is how much wear do all the components have on them (Cassette, crankset, chain, derailleur, tyres, wheelset - are they damaged - sometimes a difficult call). These can add up and make the actual price quite high. In my case the components had very little wear all I have thus far replaced are the cables because they looked like they needed it and tyres.

But alas I can't give you much advice on the 2005 besides I wouldn't buy one. Rather invest an extra R500 and get and 06 or better. The 07 and upwards have external BB's and shifters with gear indicators. I just prefer the look of the 06 frames (colour/decals).
