Tubeless on DT rim

Recommended Posts

Morning all,

Can anyone help with suggesting a tubeless tyre thta will fit onto a DT Swiss X455 rim.  I tried fitting my Maxxis Larsens LUST tyres and no way they would go on......busted 7 tyre levers in the process too...Embarrassed

Now I need to find  tyre that is easier to fit......any suggestions?

Thanks,

I do not think it is the tyres, more the way you are installing.

When you put the tyre on make sure the 2 beads are touching insde the rim. This allows you more room for the last bit of tyre to fit over the rim.

Not sure if it makes sense but just try it. Makes the difference between busting levers and installing without any aids. Have the dinged knuckles to prove it.

UST tyres are always a tight fit, Dirtbreath's suggestion does help.

Some tyre/rim combinations are just a pain. Conti on Shimano rims is nigh on impossible, however Conti on DT Swiss rims is pretty good. I'm using 2.2" UST Race King's

Awesome tyre!

Thanks guys,

I think it must be the rim in this case....slightly higher profile than my other rims.  Have fitted Crossmarks and Larsens before on other rims no problems.  Birtbreath....I got the bead on the center and still no luck.....almost feels as if the thickness of the conversion strip makes the fitting of the tyre impossible.  I need to find an easier fit tyre....anyone know the pythons?

Have same rims and have just fitted Specialized Captains 2.0 and only broke one tyre lever! Captains do not have same rolling efficiency as TTs, but worth a look at.

Thanks Dusty....could be the solution....even if only for the sake of the tyre levers! Big%20smile

ZTR olympics and Kendas, are my easiest fit...

DT 455, eish... they are my toughest fit and I can't get em to seal properly, on all brands, maxxis, conti, specialized.

Specialized tyres are a mission to get to seal on the ZTR

Did you install the conversion strip over the original rim strip?

With some rims you need to remove the original rim strip and replace with thin tape to give sufficient room to mount UST tyres.

The Stans kit includes a rol of thin spoke tape for this purpose. Usually you don't need it and can leave the original rim strip in.

There are instructional videos on the Stans site which might help.

Leave your tyres in sun and then try or go get some tyre ease from your LBS, its a liquid like soap effectively. the hutchinson pythons are a good tyre and should fit on no problem. also try get a set of schwable racing ralphs. awesome tyres if you ask me. good luck
