Kiwi Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 What type of mountain bike tyre do you use or prefer?Kiwi2009-05-21 02:17:00
Iwan Kemp Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Definitely UST. Wish they could be a bit lighter, but they never puncture and I can run them as low as I would like.
HowellingWulf Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Definitely UST. Always pass guys in races fixing punctures on tubes. On the flip side - when you get tyre trouble on UST's you are in a world of pain. Tyre got slashed on a rocky section some time ago... Could'nt plug it since the hole/cut was too big, didn't have any tyre boots & Stan's splurted out. Had to wait an hour for support to supply me with new wire beaded tyre & tubes... Punctured 5 kays later and did not have any spares. Pushed bike and eventually got a lift on sweeper bikes & vehicles. Longest 56 kays ever...
Christopher Brunsdon Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Ones I can afford - missing option on POLL
Gerhardc Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Hae been using UST (Crossmark LUST) and have not looked back ever since.......touch wood!!!
jagwil Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 I have been using Kenda Karma for some time now. No problems until Saturday morning, 45 minutes before the start of the Lion Man at Mabalingwe. I noticed that I had a serious de-lamination problem and had to put a tube in. No further problem during the race. I am replacing the tyre though.(R383.00)
Serendipity Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Are you planning on bringing some into the country at a decent price Kiwi?
Kiwi Posted May 21, 2009 Author Posted May 21, 2009 Hi Serendipity, I hope to, still working out the details.

100Tours Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 I use non-UST, kevlar bead tyres without tubes (thats what is recommended for tyre conversions I think). Works great, super light too. Maxxis Monorails. best tyres I've ever found
