The trail crossing 1st Avenue next to Pick n Pay has been "ranch poled" by the council.?

and when you cross the road and take the path to the left to get to the road to miss the bog on the right, they have also placed a beam there.

Sneaky. Nice to see the council doing some maintenance work though.

Just ride around the new poles. nice little drop off to right (or left depending what direction you riding), closer to the bridge.

i almost missed those poles the first two times i went through - you're so used to just continuing ... anybody know the reasoning behind it?

You can bet your money that the guy missing a chin wont think of going back and marking the dangerous spot.

I put up some signage that I got from Ride magazine but apart from interest while I was busy ( I look good in my tool belt ) not many people stop to read. Granted, the content could be improved but shourly anything should spark that dim little bulb into action.

We extremele priveleged to have The Spruit on our doorstep and if we dont self police fellow cyclists this might deteriorate badly.

The alternative is a well maintained track that is good enough to keep us city cyclists off the road. There are a number of hubbers trying to get involved with council and although a lengthy process are seeming to be getting there. My efforts came unstuck and ended in me receiving some off record suggestions of things to do under the radar. Not a sustainable solution though.

Find some mates and fix areas that looked damaged. Chat to other users and be polite when passing them. Engage selfish cyclists who might not know that their actions are being unsocial

Dirtbreath - abbreviated rules of the trail with your choice of content would be welcomed, thanks for trying. I won't have budet to print more posters for a while, but then we'll be ready with something you approve of when I do... send pictures of tool belt please;-)

Ok so about the barriers. I reported this to the voluntary spruit working committee. Those barriers are in the part of the Spruit that the Rockhoppers are sort-of responsible for, so Richard Durrant went down and had a look. The purpose appears to be to keep cars out as the taxis have been going down there and partying rather loudly. He put up some hazard tape and will probably nail in some truck reflectors over the weekend.

he wrote: OK - my son who rides the spruit quite often says it is easy to ride around the closure by going closer to the river and riding through the gap in the fence next to the road bridge. Vehicles can't get through here but bikes can!Perhaps just marking it well, until riders get to know the closure is all that is required? Another closure further down below <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Victory Park can be easily ridden around as well?<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
