Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of have my Farsightedness fixed by having Lazered. I know a few ppl that had it done but I just want to make sure it's safe?! ANyone here with some experiance with Lasik?

thx

This procedure uses a laser to change the curvature of the cornea (outer window of the eye). LASIK (laser in-situ keratomileusis) has become the procedure of choice for most patients due to speedy recovery and fewer side effects.
Most LASIK patients notice a significant improvement in their vision soon after surgery. LASIK removes tissue within the cornea to treat low to high levels of near sightedness, far sightedness and astigmatism.

Had mine done 2years ago! Best investment you will make!!

Go to the best LASIK doctor is my advice. My mom had her's done 18 years ago...she still has 20/20 vision.

What costs can one expect?  I would love not having to worry about specs/lenses all the time.

I had my eyes done about 14 years ago, still have perfect 20/20.

Best thing ever, and so quick and easy.

After I had mine done, 5 other friends also had theirs done.

Dr John Hill,  can def recommend him.

Go for it!!!!

I emailed then Re: the cost and they said they need to know what my Refraction was, so I need to find that out first. - AuctionL, I read that 20% of Lasik patiants compain about Dry eyes after the op..

 LASIK causes dry eye
Dry eye is the most common complication of LASIK. Corneal nerves that are responsible for tear production are severed when the flap is cut. Medical studies have shown that these severed nerves never return to normal densities and patterns. Symptoms of dry eye include pain, burning, foreign body sensation, and eyelid sticking to the eyeball. The FDA website warns that LASIK-induced dry eye may be permanent. Approximately 20% of patients in FDA clinical trials experienced "worse" or "significantly worse" dry eyes at six months after LASIK.(1)

20% is pretty high???Confused

If your eyes sight are still deteriorating every year, it is not worth it as it will continue even after the surgery. That is what I was told 5 years ago. But the past two years my sight has stabelised so I can look into it. The problem is that the medical aid will not pay for it.

Had a mate who had it done. About 6 years down the line his eyes are back where they were and maybe even worse. Cant have it done again. Apparently his eyes hadn't stabilised and he rushed to have it done.

Been to have my eyes checked out (-1.75) and was advised by the surgeon not to have it. I have near perfect vision with my glasses on and he said laser would never achieve this quality of vision. He said unless the glasses are unbearable, rather keep them. Much better suited to peple with really bad eyesight that when they get 95% vision the improvement is so large that they are much satisfied with the result.

I still think I will have it one day.

Had it done in 2001, better than battling with contact lenses. Had burred nightvision from approaching cars and robots for about a year, that's a side effect but only in some people. Pretty standard op these days, the procedure is weird though.

My wife had it done once her eyes stabilized (-4.25). After 6 months had to have the left eye done again as it deteriorated.

After 7 years she is back on spectacles (-2.75) as she will never be able to wear contact lenses again. Her night vision is relatively non-existent as to what it was prior to the operation. These are things that the doctor failed to mention upfront.

My father in law had his done 15 years ago and he only needs reading glasses at this point. But he doesn't spend 8 hours a day in front of a computer so the strain on his eyes are a lot less.
