House of Paint / Riders of Shame

These guys, by virtue of their "jobs", are role models... just like any professional cricket player or rugby player and kids are easily influnced by the good and stupid things that role models do.

Lets face it... riding without a helmet may seem like a trivial thing but I'm sure that there is not one person on this hub that wouldn't encourage a child to wear a helmet... I for one would hate to see my child lying on the ground with his head cracked open because he wasn't wearing a helmet and getting him to wear his helmet is a daily struggle because helmets aren't cool.

Professionals should enjoy being role models and should lead by example. They enjoy being in the limelight but should equally expect to be named and shamed if they step out of line.

Oh... and this is not bad advertising for House of Paints... at the time of writing they have had 2452 views on this post and now so many more people are aware of HOP... they are smiling, It's more exposure than they will ever get on TV at a race..

And monsieur Bonjour...... will you next condone the hi-jacking of motorists and the wanton murder of farmers or the rape of women. The issue here is the moral of what those cyclists did. NOT guaging Crow if he is immature or not. You my friend needs to take a good look at your own morals, if you rode to your car without your helmet pluheeze do not try to drag down Crow.

Maybe this should be worked into membership to Hubdom? Wink

It is really unnecessary to label your fellow Hubbers as anally retentative just to justify your own riding without a helmet.

Dunno how to read your comment BigH, but hopefully you are not directing that 'your' at me.

If so, please provide proof for your statement, and if not go read through this thread again, after taking a chill pill smiley2.gif

I used the term "anally-retentive" (AR) abt people trying to micro-manage other people's behavior.

Being (AR) generally stems from a feeling of powerlessness as a two year old where all you can control in your life is when to take a dump - so you control that by keeping it in.

Then you could say that AR people are literally full of sh*t.

Happy Wednesday

I was really interested to see your post where you thought the helmet law was unenforceable because of the burden it would put on the poorer cyclists.

Does anyone know if the law has ever been enforced and what the penalties are?

For me, I always wear a helmet as it's so dangerous to ride here but sometimes it'd be nice to buzz round the suburbs on a Sunday afternoon without - same sort of feeling as streaking I imagine.
