Hmmmm, Polar power meter... I had big distortions on my 725 powermeter when I got into the smaller cogs at the back.  Somehow it just increased the readings for no reason!  Make sure your chain is clean and freshly lubed.  Mine was more accurate when clean (no idea why!)

Also, you need either a steady climb or a flat one with no downhills or areas to coast.  Shouldn't make a difference whether it's a hill or a flat road.  Just keep the power up, which of course is easier on a hill...

Ag Willehond, we once road next to easy other and the difference in power you got from the Polar and what i got on the PT was almost identical. I'm with you, do it on a Hill, a lot easier.

That said, I have not done one of those STUPID 20min Intervals in almost a year, it was a complete waste of my time I'd rather do Power Climbs and Tempo Rides. I get enough 20-40mins L4's in when racing.

I agree Marius, the 20 minute interval is good as a reference point, not training itself.  If you focus on it too much, all you do is you get good at doing 20 minute sessions!!!

I rode up Ou Kaapze Weg... I wasnt warm enough, and was dark so i couldnt see the power to guage my effort... all wrong.

It's not so easy finding a 20 min hill climb that would use the middle rings at the back 16/17T.

I'm going to use an IDT to do the next one and see what happens.

I train in the Dark 5/7 days a week, get a light / helmet mounted so you can see what's what on the PT CPU. Gearing is not important , pick one you can turn easiest at for FTP value. Ou KAAPZE long side should be plenty long.

I find my FTP and all other value's are down 10% on the IDT.

Maybe I will climb it from the other side on Saturday morning, I had to ride up the steep side but start my effort at the westlake traffic light, then i got to the top and I was still 4 mins short - had to duck into the Silvermine reserve to find more hill!!

Boooo!!! Nope, I'm not doing those, I don't like doing it, it's stupid and makes my legs sore!! ps, nice result at the WP XC Nationals, glad to see you riding again.

What category are the Elite riders in the league about?

When you finish upfront in the front group in Elite then you are at the same power level or there about. If you finish upfront in SV then the same applies. smiley2.gif
