I want to upgrade my wheelset and ive looked at a couple of brands. I dont have a huge budget and I like the Mavic Crosrides or the Fulcrum Red Metal 5.

Which of the above is a better wheelset to go with?

Have you considered Shimano?

Hope hoops from CRC. Bombproof noisy a$$ hubs, and should be about the same price as crossrides. For XC go for the DT 4.1 rims, for trail / AM the DT 5.1s.

Go for the Shimano XT tubeless 775 wheelset on CRC if you can - Pair F&R 24h Black 26" C-Lock

R2855.34Ā ZAR + 14% vat.Ā

Its such an issue to make and to maintain a non-tubeless rimset. Everytime you change tyres/add slime the strip may move or come loose etc. The Fulcrums are also very good. Mavic's are good but bearing issues and maintenance are costly..

I have the Fulcrum red metal zero tubeless wheelset -Ā  Brilliant wheels, stiff, no flex and tubeless ready.

I have recently bought a set of Fulcrum red metal 5 disc.

the weight +- 1850g, excellent wheels. Not theĀ best in weight class but for R2200 Sealed bearings, 2:1 spoke ratio.

I tested them in the Sibebe MTB race in Swaziland and they took some heavey beating thruĀ rocky and technical decents.

So if your not to much of a weight weenie Red Metal 5 excellent.

(My bike weighs in at 9,6kgĀ with these wheels)Ā Ā
