I have just been quoted "at least R370" to have my MTB frame anodised.

Now to choose the colour......I'm leaning towards black, or a titanium/gunmetal colour

You have limited anodising colours and I don;t think in any of the finishes mentioned above.

I took an XTR crank to be anodized to the guys mentioned in Sebenza. Couldn't do it. Said the acid bath would destroy the crank and nothing would be left behind. They did a seatpost for me, and it came out beaut.

You will have to have it powdercoated, but that will look shitty after 2 rides when there are chips all over the place.

Polish it with a brillo pad and then toothpaste and toiletpaper

If you find the right anodise, The colour choice is unlimited. The "colour" is just the colour of the dye in the solution that they leave your parts in and the "darkness" of the colour depends on how long they leave it in the solution for. You can have black and titanium/gunmetal from the same solution. It depends on how long they leave it in for.

To get the same effect as the crank, get your parts sandblasted and then anodised. It will have the same rough finish. To get a shiny commercial anodised finish, the parts being anodised need to be polished to a mirror finish. The better the finish prior to anodising, the better the result.

The big trick is to find a decent anodiser...
