with a agent service they will most likely throw away a perfectly good dust wiper and oil seal and charge you for a new set (R350 - 450).

Good luck.

Yeah, the agents chucked my seals (they were half black, but I'm sure they could be cleaned). Then, when I complained about top-out play (only a few millimetres, but still) after getting it back, they just replaced everything else they could replace, ie cartridge seals... Typical @#$ing agent thinking: don't diagnose a problem and solve it, just replace everything and hope it fixes things, because the manual doesn't have a FAQ point for the problem.

All in all cost me R900 for a 2008 Recon Race's first service after about 4500km. Dead

Biggest fox service i've had was R550' date=' new low bushes, dust seals, oil etc.

Not sure on Rock, but they are probably cheaper.....the fox is oh so smooth, so worth the service cost every 6-8 months.

Last Fox Service R550

Sent in a Rock Shox Reba WC - R1335 also needed bushes, so made it more.

Good on you on your efforts. We all appreciate it. I still say you need to start up your own line of tools and consumables under the Yellow Saddle brand.[/quote']

No, he couldn't help.

I've also decided to do local manufacture on generic 32-mm seals for Rox and Fox. I'm still awaiting the prototype though. I'll keep you okes posted because I'll sure as hell need customers when that lot starts to flow.

I'm limited in colours though...no yellow, only red or black. Toying with red.

Yes and no. It is standard motorcycle fork oil and available from most motorbike shops.  However, Fox wants 7.5W and Rox 5 and 15W and Manitou 10W etc etc.

Freely available is only 5W and 15W and on occasion, 10W. To get 7.5W you need to do some calculations AND know what the real "W" of the oil was in the first place. The "W" (for Weight) of the oil as indicated on the label is very arbritary and doesn't mean much.

For those calculations you need to find oil's data sheet. It looks a bit like this below, and then apply a formula to calculate how much of each to mix in order to get a viscoscity in-between. That's GoLefty's domain.

So, yes it is freely available but not like you necessarily want it. You have to mix it up sometimes.

Or you could just buy it from your LBS @ R350 a litre...

Yeah, and your kids will also one day be using it (at ~5ml a time)!! When they grow up...
