I'm currently using tubeless conversion on non UST. No problem there but I'm thinking of getting new rims. With my conversion I find it easier to just pull out the strip and put in a tube if the tyre cuts and continue. Now if I get UST rims how easy is it to still do this? Is the valve easy enough to remove and put in a tube as a temp measure?

Suppose I can go to the LBS to check but I'm lazy and that is why you are here. Yes YOU reading this Wink

Yes, its very easy.

The valve has a screw nut thingie holding it in place. Just remember to keep it all together and in a safe place if you do remove it as they aren't cheap.

Dunno but what rims are UST???

2 many to mention but basically you won't need a rim strip as there are no spoke holes on the inside of the rim.

Universal Standard for Tubeless (or something like that) developed by Mavic.

Mavic 819 rims are full UST

Stans require tape and but are much lighter and are similarly priced, I think.

As I heard Mavix 819`s are bad wont mention my source

I believe Fulcrum is good but it's a bit too expensive for me.

What did your anonymous source say about 819's?

If you are looking at a custom full UST wheel build, that is your only option.

Besides being a little heavy, what wrong with them?

The Stans rims are nice and light, but are not UST. They use that yellow tape and work a charm apparently. There is a whole range to suit your weight and riding style (but not your wallet)

After that, its any rim and a conversion kit.

What sort of wheels are you looking to build?

CRC has a great range and are stocking Stans rims now.

I'm with Splat,

Mavic 819's are not light, but I've got a set on my Prophet and have found them to be bomb proof.

I've heat tested one, First time i used my tow bar carrier I melted the tyre off the rim (who thought exhaust fumes were that hot) and a month late hit a concrete block at about 50k, burped the tyre flat, but still runs true and seals a treat.
