LeTurbo Posted June 10, 2011 Share Agter os, there's also the occaional sentiment among fixie riders that some things look best with the signs of age. There's plenty rusty PUGs and other bikes come out for the Critical Mass rides, and they're all brilliant! Resurrected from the dumpster (thank the stars you didn't do that), and living again. Have you tried just polishing the heck out of those wheels? Or have them sprayed - beautiful wheels with a nicked and hard-worked frame look awesome. Agter os Posted June 10, 2011 Share You are so correct - yes, I will most probably not repaint the bike etc. How ever appropriate scrathes etc may look, I am somewhat perturbed about the rust on the rims and spokes. I have used Silvo but will probably have to resort to something like Brasso. Do not want to damage the chrome any further though. When we were still at school, (years ago) we cleaned and polished the spokes with steel wool, and I may try that again. By the way, does anybody know where I may buy spacers or these new fancy clamps for the (single) back sprocket? javadude Posted June 11, 2011 Share Hey Guys Would be interested to hear what you think this bike is worth, I bought it off a fellow hubber who had "modernised" it, I've subsequently converted it back to old school and have spent a lot of time and fair bit of money on it, problem is its a little too small for me, size 56 and I need about a 57/58. Bike is in good to very good condition apart from a couple of nasty scratches on the top tube and rear stay which were inflicted whilst moving it (previous owner) I was not keen to get it resprayed because of the custom work on paint job. Bars, stem (3TTT) & headset (Shimano) are brand new (NOS) that I imported. Grouset is Campag. Bike is mid 90's and the Altain is pretty rare, it columbus tubing (I think its Columbus Brain tubing, just branded Altain for Colnago) My photo isnt very clear, but here's a link to a site I found with the same bike http://mauisvintage.blogspot.com/2010/04/90s-colnago-altain.html   Nice bike. I have a 98 catalog with that same bike in it. It says "New concept frame with special Columbus oversize tubes specifically produced for Colnago" The yellow colour code is N6. MTB0007 Posted June 11, 2011 Share To clarify the shifters .. The bike came standard with these 6 speed 105 sifters which allow the rider to change from friction to sis index shifting .. The balance of the bike is all Shimano 600 kit the reason 105 down tube shifters were Factory fitted is due to the shimano 600 shifters being weak and failing on lots of bikes.. I want to get a set of later deep dish wheels and have these with the 600 hubs and cassett restored. For easy riding .. Ill hammer the newer wheels for training ect. The bar tape is Fizik with added gel pads .. And all cables and housings are new Jagwire.. Looking for white fizik saddle to complete the look. The thread on the fork steerer is also completely stripped.
