Picked this up earlier this week from GT Fred and decided to build up as single speed...

Sandblasted / Powder coated Late 70's Le Jeune built up with a mix of mostly newer style bits I had lying around.

Managed to find an old Shimano Sante Crankset (also late 70's - sat between Shimano 600 and Dura ace i believe) and a matching saddle from the good folks at the cycle hub in Rietvlei.

All i need is a 26.4 mm seatpost and so far no suppliers / bike stores have been able to help...

Please fellow hubbers can anyone help me out / have a scratch around their garage? I need to get this bad boy out on the road!

Lovely bicycle, though it looks more like an early 80s than a late 70s, but who knows.

Sante was a group in the 105 range, actually just below 105, but much the same. The model number, as per the crank is FC 5000, whereas 105 would be 5500.

Also the date code is HK, showing the crank was made in November 1983, so also early 80s.

Shimano date codes run:

G=1982

h=1983

I=1984

etc

and the month codes run from A = Jan to L=December.

None of this takes anything away from the beautiful lady you have, though IMHO it's a pity you've turned her into a SS!!!!

Nice one , never stop learning on this forum ????

I read about the groupset here...

Looking again, it becomes apparent my dyslexia was on top form re: the age ????

Took it for its maiden voyage today and Im in love. Having ridden a steel MTB for a few yrs now, it's all I was hoping for and more! Reminds me of my first proper road bike as a teen (alpina).

As for the build... More beers, less gears for this one :)

That said I would still love to get my grubby mits on something italian with some full Campag love one day... but for under a grand all in, I'm stoked with the way this came out.

Repeat after me: "I shall not look at E-bay, I shall not look at E-bay, I shall not look at E-bay......."  ;) See what I did there? You already looked, didn't you? :D

My cleaned up Peugeot Aero with eroica legal brake levers and pedals and new tape and leather saddle

Hi BB. Lovely build. I promised myself to not even contemplate a 6 speed. You making me have second thoughts.

Is that a Schrader valve I see?

yeah its a scrader valve in a slightly nasty CST super 27 and a quarter tyre - the choices of tyres aren't that extensive when you have 27 and quarter wheels

those are old mtb tubes I stuck in there just to see if it all works

the tyres weigh a ton- good for Strade Bianche though :)

Hi guys!

At the end of this year I will be moving and unfortunately, will not be able to take my small collection of Italian steel with me. They are mostly projects with a collection of bits and pieces I have collected over the past few years. I would love to see them completed in the future, so that's why I have decided to drop a message into this thread, with the hope of seeing them completed here. If there is anyone interested, feel free to PM me, I will be letting them go for what I've spent on them. I will update the information of each bike as I go along and gather the strength to let them go!

Here is a sneak preview so long:

This is my pride and joy. Thanks to EvanB, sourced frame/fork, bar and stem as well as the Delta calipers. Ok...its not entirely retro...but it deserves to be on the road! The ride is amazing!

Thoughts?

most interesting place ive ever seen that brakeset

Track Frame - have been told it may be either a Peugeot track or a Richert Track?

after removing all the layers (three)it was originally painted a green gold colour (no remaining decals )and used to wear a head badge for which there are two horizontal indents on head tube.

Rear drop outs marked BREV CAMPAGNOLO on both sides of both dropouts

front dropouts marked CAMPAGNOLO

crank is a campy pista 165

seat tube 26.4

it came with a flip flop rear hub

and this Campy Record high flange 36 h track hub on front

anyone have any idea what it is (is it something or should I turn it into a really cool fixie :)

With Campag dropouts it's very unlikely to be a Peugeot.

Is the BB English or Italian thread???

If it's English, then probably made in the UK.

If it's Italian, there you are!

Check the headset threading too.

Agreed, 60-70's but not Peugeot with Campagnolo dropouts. ENG BB could make it in the Carlton or about era. Any makings on BB?

Thankfully the rear seat stay bridge hasn't been drilled, as yet!

Edit: also the 26.4 mm seatpost dates it to 60-70's
