Aaah that sucks man.

Hope your fork internals did not got damaged, then all you need is a new or 2nd hand lower. There are plenty fork lowers available. Best bet is to contact Pottie and see what he can do for you.

Good luck and hope you will not be tempted to ride on tar/concrete suface again :)

Hello fellow shredders!

A friend of mine in Paarl is selling his Giant DH Team frame.

Details are at the link. He is also a great photographer and will probably take pics at the next Shuttle Day.

Dude what did you hit??

I'm not sure exactly what made that hideous hole, it all happened so fast, and I was very disorientated when I got up.

But I think the hole may have been punched/gound into the fork by a kerb as me and the bike came to a stop. (I was going somehwre between 40-45km/h when I hit the deck).

What do you guys use to resize pics as mine keep coming out like this.20100323_020535_free.jpg

I just use MS paint.

Open the image. Click on "Image" --> "Stretch/Skew". Type in a percentage under "Stretch" of the original size that you would like the image to be (use the same percentage value for both the vertical and horizontal' date=' or the image will be distorted). Save. Check it's properties to see if it's small enough. Repeat if necessary [img']https://assets.bikehub.co.za/legacy_images/smilies/smiley1.gif[/img]

hmm... it's strange that MS Paint is making your pics so tiny?!

As for the fork... nope... was away this weekend, and payday will also have to come before a new fork.

I'm looking to see what my repair options are. I've heard of guys putting 2008 lowers on their boxxer '05s. So if my internals are ok (which they seem to be) I'll try the repair option first.

Else, it's saving time! May be a month or 2 before I can afford a brand new boxxer... but if I can find a decent 2nd hand one, I may be up and riding again next week!

Other upgrades... well those have been put on hold since my recent "lie down"... I wan't banking on replacing my fork just yet. Wanted to go for a new RD and shifters, and some new rims... but that has to wait until I get a new fork and chain (snapping chain was the catalyst in my transfer from the saddle to the ground).

If you know of anyone selling a boxxer ('07 or newer, doesn't matter which model)... pm me. Thanks

SUPER MONSTER nuff saidsmiley1.gif

MONSTER for sure. How do you plan on dealing with the super slack rake now? this bike must turn like a chopper now.

I think you'd need to custom design a frame for a fork like this...

which begs the question: WHY? I've seen some of the finest riders on the planet pulling off the most insane things with 'normal' size tripple crowns, so why the need?

just a q

first off: triple clamps belong in the domain of dirt bikers, because the top clamp as another clamp just for the handle bars. ?DH bikes do NOT have triple clamp forks. At all. There is talk of integrating the stem into the top clamp, but that is just talk. (albeit u can find a Hope (i think) stem integrated into a Boxxer top clamp).

As for custom frames? not really. these forks are used for the massive massive jumps/drops/general recklessness_on_2_wheel (back in teh day), and a frame that comes to mind fit for that insane purpose is Karpiel. same builder who makes that double shock frame for a 12" of travel at the back to match the 10-12" travel upfront. Awesome looking bike.

I've followed that little series on VitalMTB on the ?history of DH, and it was quite interesting to note that travel is largely decreased as the sport has matured, as apparently, bike stability at speed is compromised with longer travel setups. So today, the predominate range of travel is 8" or less.

Thanks for putting this straight Capricorn. It's seriously cool having guys with all this knowledge around.

jeez.. talk about missing the point

In terms you may understand the shorter travel philosophy is one applied to DH racing. Even though the Red Bull Xtreme challenges are taken on by riders using 'normal' 8" travel forks and shocks, there are others who take on the same challenges with much larger travel forks and shocks. Again, fit for purpose according to the needs and styles of the rider. Nothing mystical about it.

no excuses now. Note: even Karpiel understands the dynamics of travel versus purpose. But feel free to argue with Jan Karpiel. He loves the debate apparently.
