where's that little jump, Mamba?

Thing is loveme.DH/FR, Signal Hill has big potential if all the little bits are hooked up properly. but it's gonna take some good sweat to make it work. I reckon, that hill is worth a 2 - 2.5min run of drops and jumps. It just needs some work.

oh yeah, meant to say I need to draw you a little google map with the various routes i'm referring. it will be much easier for you that way to find your way around. at the moment, it involves a lot pushing. sucksballs tbh.

Cap - Please could you upload a google earth image with the trails, that would be awesome! Im gonna have a look asap! Ill bring a spade too! More trails available the better for the sport! HAving looked at google earth, i see quite a few sweet looking single track lines above Bokaap!

Unfortunately cant do anything this weekend... Got a farewell and a birthday party...

That little jump is right at the end of Boomslang, i think... Had a run on mamba too, but it wasnt too fun, as the trail wasnt obvious and i kept losing it! Was my first time at Tokai! was pretty cool! Felt like a bit of a dork tho- Feels lame doing downhill with a XC style helmet! haha!

The image above looks like it could be cool? Dunno how close i got to detailing the route capricorn.. I kinda lost you "once you hit the tree line".. Whats the status on building there? Is the possibility of a R500 fine a reality?

DHK it is a nature reserve/under parks board control. frankly, they should be more worried about some sketchy groups building informal settlements on the slopes. I only build using what's on the ground, albeit I will bring up some more planks and some rebar to shore up the lips of the drops and jumps. Luckily, no sketchy dudes in those parts of the woods.

While i was building that jump, I saw a policeman on two wheels ride up the jeep track. I guess the lazy ass took a short cut from the CBD up the dirt tracks to the top of SH. man, wish I could get a dirt jump and rip up there for the funsies.

section in black is my normal quick run route. just for funsies.

that thin yellow route on the right is one I'm thinking of linking from the main visitor lookout point at the top of SH down to that second parking lot. Note: there is risk of being in crap for running this line as it's meant for walkabout touristy types who are scared of men in goggles and helmets. But i reckon an early morning run wont harm anyone smiley2.gif Then from that parking lot, down as per that thin line on up till it hits the black line. That part of the track is the starting 'straight' for Urban assault. you then hook a right and follow the black line.

If you go left instead, the jeep track flattens out and it becomes a day for miss daisy.  but if u continue on, you can hook off to the right into the woods as per that thick yellow line that finally touches the black line (there is a red line snaking over that thick yellow, but more about that later).

THe person(s) that started that route (thick yellow) had a good idea, but they gonna fudge it all up for everyone as that line is practically straight down. it's gonna wash out like crazy and cause serious soil erosion over time, if not in the short term.

So, i reckon i could fix that by snaking the trail around some trees, building up some drops and berms, hence the snaking red line.

Note where the black line, the thick yellow line and that snakey red line meet up: that's where there's always been a little single track thru the forest(hook a rite at the tree line, but follow the black route).

Now, the snakey red line covers a thinner yellow line. That's the line i'm currently working on and starts with a little jump. WHere there is thin yellow, i've made the lines, or ride existing lines. the thin red line is where I still need to join bits I've finished/existing lines.

The very last bit of snakey red/thin yellow line, technical stuff. No speed to be had there. Very steep terrain with rock gardens. watch out for sketchy dudes. It's close to the edge of the first set of houses, so i dont expect funny things to happen, but it's a motivation to keep rolling smiley17.gif  (JJ!!)

the one big reason I want more trails thru woods, is to stay off the jeep tracks. while it's pretty damn fun just for speed, it's becoming very damn dangerous with many cyclists, joggers and other pedestrians + dogs on there. Twice now, Iv'e almost hit a dog. I would hate to clip a critter, much less the eye candy walking hte critters.... oh wait.. maybe that's why i didnt see the critters... GiDAM DAILY DISTRACTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but i digress smiley17.gif with those proposed trails, i reckon a track worth 2 to 2and half minutes can be made outta SH. granted, the technical stuff will most be man made, but who cares. It will do the trick.

The XCers, critters and daily distractions get the jeep tracks, and the hairychested men with larges balls and small brains get the gnar, and only once in a while cross paths. I reckon it's a win win.

oh and urban assault will finally get a little bit more serious.. smiley2.gif

i almost forgot about this line. it runs along the rim of the other quarry/ shooting range. bit sketch if u miss the jumps and hit the barbed wire, cos boy, it's at least 30m to the bottom smiley17.gif at least!

but those tree stumps lying there wasting away are begging for some attention. My trusty spade..i mean maker of man-hands smiley17.gif for height comparison:

that log at the top of the pic is shown in the following photo below, looking back up the intended trail.
