I heard that there is a DH track on the linksfield ridge. i am looking for more entry level tracks that i am less likely to die on but are more slope orientated than places like rietvlei farm and MTN. would linksfield be appropriate to learn on? or should i rather head to places like helderkruin or the fort in pretoria?

This from Chris Nixon:

Western Cape DH Championships

Contermanskloof

I have been trying to make this happen for a while now but have not had any luck with getting a sponsor for this event. There are still some sponsorship possibilities that look promising but even if these do not materialise we will still make this event happen on the 11th and 12th December 2010.

The course is a new one that has been built by Robert Stark of Contermanskloof specifically for this event. I rode the course this past Friday and what a course it is, world class and really steep. It can be ridden on hard tails as well.

This will be the normal 10am to 4pm practice on Saturday and then again practice on Sunday from 8am to 9:30am and racing will start at 10am on Sunday.

A video of the course will be posted here soon so keep watching this space.

Directions: Take the N7 towards Malmsberry and then take the Potsmans turn off. Turn right over the N7 and follow the road to the T junction. At the T junction turn left onto Contermanskloof Road past the quarry on your right and then another 1km turn right into Contermanskloof road and it will be sign posted from here. If you are coming from Durbanville you can go along the Fissershoek Road and at the 4 way stop turn left into Contermanskloof Road and then the farm is about 2km further on on your left hand side. or GPS -33.80019,18.572731.

Yeah Guys.

You should all come ride the race on the weekend of the 11th and 12th. Come ride. The course is AMAZING. Exactly what you want from a downhill track. You can literally ride the entire thing with 10 pedal strokes.

it's flowy and steep and as fast as you want to make it. The cool thing is if you do crash you won't hit any trees and hard stuff. It is hands down the best track I have ever ridden.

Chris spends his own time and money to set up races for YOU!! Rob has spent many hours building this track for YOU!! So come ride.

If you don't come ride then don't bitch next year if there is no provincial series and the tracks fall in to disrepair cos they are never raced and therefore not maintained.

It's a simple equation. The races drive the track building process. No riders at the races no races. Tracks die out.

think the race weekend is the weekend of 10Dec Cap? Any idea if it's open to anyone? Would be fun to ride a new track :)

Hey dude. Yes the race is open to anyone. Tell all the George okes to do a mission to Cape Town and come ride. If you share petrol it will be a cheap weekend. You can leave George early Sat morning. get to the race venue at 10. Ride. 1 Nights accommodation. Ride the Sunday. Head back in the afternoon. Sub R500.00 weekend.

The races are usually R250.

For that you get shuttled to the top of the track all day Saturday. You get shuttled on Sunday morning. At the end of all the fun you get timed.

There are medics on hand if you hurt yourself. ALL this for R250.

Hey man this sounds cool! Im interested sounds like you have seen the course can you perhaps give us some description/pics of the course while we wait for the video?

Specifically Id like to know whether the track is focused on big drops / gaps (with chicken runs?) or whether it is more of a fast track with the focus on speed and berms etc.

Also is this a completely new trail or has parts of the old course been incorporated into it?

The first 100 or so meters is the old track then it is totally new. There is a road gap but the chicken line is right next to the jump. there is a kick ass hip jump. You can ride around that too. There is nothing deadly or too hectic on the track. Vince's 9 year old got down without crashing multiple times so you can do it too.

Not gonna push up that track. Hell no. we might do Paarl on Sunday. You welcome to join.

ok, that would be ace. I think Adrian was asking about Paarl earlier up in teh thread.

but MariusD does raise an interesting observation that can be fairly well generalised: new track, being pumped up to be the shiz: but no photos, no course outline, no helmetcam vid. nix. Cant grow the sport without some proper hype. If we'd gone this weekend, i would clamped my cam to your noggin Duane ;)

OK that sounds like a really nice track Im probably going to be there. Heck if I only crash once then that would be ok, but I agree crashing multiple times is not so good :)

Nice that some tech trails are developed in the Durbanville area the local riders should try and support these efforts.

Hahaha. if you clamp a helmet cam to my helmet you will get a slo mo run. hahaha. Dan did a helmet cam run. I'll try post it up if he mails it to me. But seriously. who cares about helmet cam. it's a sick track. take my word for it. If you don't absolutely love it I'll personally refund your race entry fee.
