Nothing wrong with your power with climbing intervals or training on climbs mainly you will lose leg speed and overall speed.

Sounds right to me.

The thing is we always assume we know what the problem is and then look for a solution to that problem. Without testing we simply do not know what is happening with our power, speed and fitness. Sometimes the problem is not what we think it is and so our solution is based on a false premise.

I've been thinking about the same thing the last 2 weeks. Been doing weight training again and find that i climb alot better but i struggle to keep up on the flats. Its definately a case of losing legspeed while focussing on power

The problem might not be with power or leg speed. If you are climbing well, your power is there.

What might have come undone is your pedaling technique.

If you are not pedaling with a smooth cadence on a flat road, you will loose the rhythm and slow down the leg speed which you need on the flats.

Try getting onto a set of rollers and check your pedaling. if you are pedaling well, rollers should be a walk in the park. If you pedaling is off you are going to wobble all over the place.

push yourself for an hour at a time for a couple of times for only one week on a cycling machine at the gym. really push. RELEARN MUSCLE RHYTHME and then take to the road and eat tar

i have a question....doesnt his weight loss have anything to do with it? just a question.

i myself tend to lose weight (too much for my liking) when training at my peak but it seems that bigger riders do better on the flats. why is it so?

I've got a great series of DVD's that can help.

CTS Progressive Power training. (5 DVD set)

8 Week program, 2 indoor sessions per week, progresively increasing your power output.

8 weeks from now you should be ready for spring......

PM me if interested.

i think its both mucle and fat lost,i am 190 and weigh 70 kg,im thinking of taking protein to prevent the mucle breakdown, because i am thinking that ive lost to much weight

I use a protein shake for the same reason and its effect has been dramatic for me. From I have read you seem to be a little under weight and putting some weight on will increase your power. Get your fat percentage properly measured, do a power test and find out where you are.
