cutting cautions and tips

I have done a forum search key words: cut + steerer = zero

 

so, I would like cut steerers...both kinds: composite and full C

 

To avoid disasterous trial and error I must ask:

hacksaw and file?

Saw guide, SHARP fine tooth hacksaw, fine sandpaper.

-you can use 2 old stems as a guide when cutting.

 

-wrap insulation tape over the carbon steerer before cutting.

 

-cut steerer about 2mm below top of stem.

 

-MEASURE 10X BEFORE YOU CUT

valid for both materials?

I have a 32teeth hacksaw blade. Is this OK or must I find something finer?

i actually read somewhere today where a guy was talking about using a plumbers pipe cutter on his carbon steerer.

 

didnt have to worry about getting the cut straight
