Had a bunch of more than 30 cyclists here yesterday taking everything except 1m of one of the two lanes on the busy thaba nchu road up for themselves.  Including the local "famous" team.  Their reactions and handsignals when I changed the lane to get past and gestured with arms and shoulders to them what de heck they think they are doing .....   says alot about what they recon who owns the road.  And then we want to moan if we get hit.  Confused

Come on. Name and Shame.

With photos' date=' it's Show and Tell.

There more than one cycling team from bloem ? Confused Wink

Would'nt be fair to only mention them -

1. The ......club does not exist anymore, only the team.  But I'm sure there is still alot of club members with that kit.  So, was the friendly gesturing/waving cyclist a team or previous club member ?

2. they were a handfull from the 30 odd cyclists doing exactly the same, they are obviously just more recognisable due to the advertising/colours.

Anyways, even if you do get hold of all of them it will still end up with a f u attitude.  They are mos never wrong

EXCELLENT - humor for Monday --- who doesn't like riding a breast or two ?? Big%20smile

Anyway seriously now I take these points BUT I have to add what about motorists - the Sunday morning, drunk ass-coming from a club after a joll motorist that almost took us out yesterday morning - YES WE WERE RIDING 2 ABREAST on a broad road - fortunately we saw it coming - but what about the next time ??

Nah - I have to say both parties have good & bad one's on the road. Some cyclists & motorists just don't give a dammCry

My personal experience is that those who are aggressive and disrespectful of other road users and laws while on the bike, behave exactly the same behind the wheel of a car.

I believe it is about personality of individuals not of cyclists as a whole.

As cycling has become more popular, the need has arisen for us to now be more conscious of our own behaviour.

As road users we claim the same rights as other road users, it is time we also take on the same responsibilities.

I see no reason why the traffic police should not enforce the road rules on cyclists as well.

Well said and 100% correct!!ClapClap Cannot teach an old dog new tricks...

I'm afraid it will be a looong road back to rehabilitation (if any).

Maybe one should start educating the new generation cyclists - ?

Should I mention "sarcasm ? ConfusedLOL   For sure, you must wear a blue cycling kit. My first concern has been with the cyclist, not sure how that has not come over.  Just don't come crying when a taxi hit you when you and your buddies take up the left lane.

As a cyclist when uses the road to commute these days, instead of large bunch riding (where I also was guilty of all sins), I have slowly came to appreciate why motorists hate large groups of road cyclists.  In all my attempts to justify their behaviour I have come away with two key points,

one disorder on the road is an abboration.  The motorists complaint is largely based on the belief that road cyclists are disorganised, ill disciplined, selfish, ext ext ext.  Motorists really hate it when the entire lane is taken at the front with a tail that stretches for kms of hanger on'er.  Get past it all is a pain.

two.  If there is a sembalance of order, such as a revolving paceline of say 10 cyclists, who ride "abreasted" for an obvious purpose and stay to the left of the lane, this the  motorists like as it is predictable, orderly and easy to pass.

However, it seems the second senario is impossible in RSA as cyclists never train, but are always are racing or involved in some or other (*&(# measuring competition.

It's the zap signs and swearing from the cyclists that turn an irritated motorist into a homicidal maniac with a cattle prod.

I can't stand being shouted at by someone in the wrong.

This is a big problem in a lot of things. The attitudes of so many is wrong.

On another forum I am a member of, poor behaviour is very problematic and trying to correct the behaviour causes many problems.

Just another symptom of a society almost terminally ill. Dead

This "I can do anything I smaak" attitude. It sucks and creates huge frustration.

No wonder motorists often want to run us over.Ouch
