Tricky.

Columbus obviously points to Italy. You need to give us some more pics to work with though. The drop-outs, the gussets, the seat/top tube/stay join.

Also the style of rear brake stay is a clue sometimes. What is the seatpost diameter? Is the BB italian thread?

Does it have tapped holes in the dropouts for the locating screws? Does it have a little chain hook? Does it have the pump tit on the head tube? And horrors - does it have little holes for mudguards?

Any other details on the BB housing?

That fork crown indicates a Cinelli unicrown, which was used on many bikes, including Pinarello. In has an internal lug and like you say, the fork has no visible external lugs. It was an engineering disaster but nevertheless...

Take out the seatpost and shine a torch down the seat tube. Does it have rifling inside? That indicates Columbus SLX tubing....but tells us nothing else, I'm afraid.

But like someone said, it is likely a Pinarello. Show us a decent photo and the bike will be ID in 10 minutes.

Are all dropouts stamped columbus? Rear and fork?

Is there any shape machined out of any of the frame lugs?

Are the lug tapers in your opinion long or normal in size?tarboy2009-10-02 13:46:33

Hi All,

A big thank you to everyone who has assisted so far.
Attached are further pictures based on questions received.
Regarding the inside of the seat tube, it looks smooth the whole way down.
I do not know enough about bottom brackets to identify whether it is Italian thread.
I didn't find any holes for mudguards, but did find something attached to the inside of the seat stay on the derailler side.  I have included a picture (first picture below), I have no idea what it's there for.
"Columbus" is stamped on both rear dropouts and both fork ends
Please ignore the stickers on the seat tube just beneath the top tube and between the gear levers.  They are "Cycle Safe" stickers which I stuck on myself as the frame was looking a bit boring.

Thanks again

I note that there are not that many of us with a clear answer LOL I say "generic Italian"Confused

All I can say is that it has the hallmarks of a top class frame. The cut outs under the BB have to give it away - JB - What is it?

I have no idea, I'm busking my way through this. My sole expertise in this field comes from a short ownership of a Pinarello Treviso in the late 80s. Now that it isn't one of those, I'm outta ideas.

I like your "Generic Italian" suggestion.

I must agree with Matchstix.

The fork has a different stamp on it, and while the fork could be changed, it's the lack of any stamp at the top of the seat stay on my bike that convinces me.

The chrome pattern is very similar though.

***UPDATE***

Hi all,

The bike is something called "Le Taureau"

I have found virtually nothing on google and was wondering if anyone has heard of it?
