We want ultimate performance and with such a unit on the bike or on your wrist you will only want to go out and ride and experiment with this excellent equipment! I'm planning on buying myself the Polar RS800CX Pro Team Edition. It is alot of money but worth it!! Where are the cheapest dealerships/ shops to buy a Polar Heartrate Monitor or specific the RS800CX PTE?  On the Polar website it retails for about $449.95. What is the best method to buy? Either Import from USA etc or buy Locally?

Thanks for all the input.  It sounds like if you got the money, the Polar RS800CX is definitely the way to go.

It seems to be the cheapest on the Chain Reaction website at the moment - have any of you had any bad luck with this site, e.g. items getting lost/stolen in transit or getting hit with customs in SA?

I have a f6 and it is a mission to try and download the data to your computer.....get something with a cable' date=' do not trust polars sonic download thingy....it is sh1te

I would rather recommend the garmin 305 forerunner...can use in the Gym, the bike, the car etc

The cardio machines in the gym can pick up the signal from the polar transmitters, but not from the Garmin.

Helps quite a bit if you set these to one of their interval (pace/HR/etc) settings

Rather buy it local, or at least contact local Polar distributors / support and find out whether they will honour any warrantees on the unit if you bring it in grey. If you bring it in grey you might find yourself without their stellarly good support.....Ouch

problem is' date=' locally they cost almost twice as much - they don't seem to have adjusted their prices for a much improved Rand exchange rate yet... Cry[/quote']

But the support you get from polar is awsome, at the argus expo they exchanged my HR belt with no questions asked, did not pay in a cent. If you bring it in grey and something goes wrong you end up spending lots of moola for repairs, might aswell just buy local.

Its not that much cheaper than local. Is it worth the 20% saving to buy from CRC and not have the backup and support of a local agent. One warranty claim will more than make up the difference.

Just bought the wife and I Garmin Edge 305s despite the "they suck" thread.

So far I am impressed. They work great, don't cost too much (3K), and the GPS function actually got us back on course on Sunday in the mountains.

I like the way data fields can be customized and that you can view up to eight at a time. Makes the unit very rider friendly.

Just hope I have one of the ones that have had the battery issues sorted.

A  few years back i bought a Brand new polar 725 form a guy in SA, after 7 months it had a problem, sent it up to Polar, they refused to repair it under warranty as it did no come in to SA via Polar SA. They have serial numbers on so they know. So i bought a new 725 from Willies ENgelbrecht cycles, 3 years later out of warranty, i send it up for battery change and receive a brand new 725X back as it had a soft ware problem, i did not even know about. I then bought a CS600 with power, Harold from Polar JHB came to my office in CT to sort out teathing problems. Polar SA service is GREAT dont try save you pay in the end. Get it local it comes with service and loads of advice. The O2009-10-17 03:05:59

Excellent. I'm hearing mostly good things with Polar SA and without a doubt I will buy Polar oneday when my budget allows me.

It seems that with PolarSA you not only buy a really great product, but your also buying awesome service.

Feltrider - Chainreaction is the BEST!

I have ordered about 6 times from them - never had a problem.
Once I even sent back an item that arrived broken, and they replaced it, no questions asked!Tongue
