BMXers will say BMX, DJers will say DJ.

The nice thing with BMX is that the shorter wheel base is easier to jump on smaller jumps. The DJ will be better on rough terrain.

Personally I would go for a BMX - cheaper to maintain, more fun and chuckable.

I have both.

I ride the BMX on street, skateparks and nice dirt jumps. For slightly sketchier jumps... i.e bumpier, imperfect transitions etc. then a jump bike feels better, due to the bigger wheels and the suspension fork (if it's not rigid).

On smooth stuff, a BMX feels great! It rolls fast and will be more manoeverable. I like the BMX on street and parks for that reason!

So I reckon it depends on what he wants to ride...

24" are a pain to find good?rims and tyres for locally.

PM MTBKID. He is doing DMR and as far as I know have some 24" rims available. Should have tires as well.
