Rock' date=' where di you get the bike? Cost?? if you don't mind me asking.[/quote']

ask Olympic cycles for one, they now know where to get one....

It looks great. But why would you want to ride what is essentially a road bike (it seems) off road when there is great technology like disc brakes' date=' air shocks etc? (Whilst I know you have both technologies) Is it a cult or a quest to return to the "pure" form of the sport when it was accepted that you rode your only bike on and off road?

I have a mountain bike, several in fact, but I wanted a bike to ride on the road, I've had road bikes and I'm not racing the TdF, so this is perfect, relaxed geometry, comfortable ride, pot hole friendly, brakes that actually work and I get the option of riding some dirt paths to take short cuts or make my ride a little more interesting......

They make a lot of sense in Europe where it is muddy in winter and you get to ride some cyclo-cross races, but for SA I don't see the point.  Maybe some of the flatter/less technical courses might be cyclo-cross friendly, but that's not really what they are made for.  They are made for going hard for an hour in mud/road conditions.

The upright position and high BB position makes them a bit weird for road riding (and especially SA style wheelsuck racing!!), but if you want to have fun on the road and ride on the verge now and then it makes sens.  Great commuting bike too.

I don't race, don't ride in groups and don't want a carbon fibre wheeled 6kg road bike with tubbies......after my first ride on it you couldn't wipe the grin off my face, had a blast.....

plus I like the ow gearing - 38/46 is perfect as far as I'm concerned......

So a cyclo cross bike might work.

If you put slicks on the cyclo cross for DD, I am sure it could work. Apparently the climbs dont really require you to be out the saddle and the chances of spinning I think are small.

Will ask DR when he comes on.

That's a good enough reason to own it. Have a blast....

That is one nice cyclo cross bike.  When I still lived in jhb I used my ss mtb for commuting, but I always thought that a single speed cyclo cross bike would be the ultimate commuting machine.

There is a Single Speed Cyclo Cross World Championship as well where the winner receive a golden speedo with wcs on.

Enjoy your GT,  I hope the new owner of your peace has one massive smile as we speak.
