Hi guys

New to the HUB and "new" at mtbing.I have tekro auriga brakes, wanting to bleed them but want to make hundred % on what mineral oil to use, i phoned UP GRADEBIKES LTD in the UK and the advised using Shimano, Sandeks (not sure on spelling) or clutch fluid. Will clutch fluid work????

Use Mineral Oil and nothing else!!

Other fluids will adversely effect performance and service life.

Mineral Oil for bicycle disc brakes are available from Shimano, Magura and Finishline and possibly others as well.

Would suggest you invest in a bleed kit, less mess and much quicker!

As long as it is mineral oil only (with as little as possible additives!) you'll be OK...

Do a search on this site with mineral oil in subject line...

Mine is just working fine asfter several months now!!

Use mineral oil specific for brake or hydraulic systems, there are quite a few substitutes if you search, just be careful about the additives, you dont want to stuff up your seals..if you find the right clutch fluid, double check the viscosity,if its too thick, you may have a heavy and slow feeling lever

"Clutch fluid" is an undefined term. I am sure if you search long and hard enough you'll even find a hydraulic clutch that works with organic custard only.

However, most clutches in cars use standard hydraulic brake fluid.  This should obviously not be used in brake systems designed for oil.

I have no idea what fluid goes into a Tekrohydraulic brake but I am prepared to bet quite a few beers it will be written somewhere on the system - Mineral Oil Only! or, DT 4 or 5.1 Fluid only.

Welcome to The Hub. You'll soon learn that advice - good and bad, is freely given away here. Bad advice usually comes with the the rider "my 2 cents worth" but some cowboys don't even bother pricing it.

Caveat Viator!
