HT for stage racing

Does some people use hard tails for stage racing?

I'm having trouble deciding between a ht and st.

I usually ride xc or single track. Places like groenkloof, but would like to do a stage race maybe next year.

Not the epic, yet.

HT just feels better for me - that real MTBing. Full Sus - don't climb lekker and also heavy and pricey.

HT for me for everything.

Full suss is so expensive and I'm still kinda young (23), so can take some extra bumps to the body.

But, I'm afraid you're right.

But even Burry rides a ST!!!!  Good quality ST is the way to go - check out the bikes on the front-end of the Epic - S-Works, Scalpel, Merida ST's, even Kevin and David rode Raleigh soft tails.

Once you've decided to go soft tail your next Q should be 26" or 29"?????Wink

I'm doing the Sani2C next year on a HT. No ways am I going to win it. Cheaper to buy a decent HT than it is to buy a decent full susser (obviously) so I went the HT route.

Burry doesn't have choice in the matter though Wink

Get a 29" HT, should be really good.

I am also doing the Sani2C and am considering purchasing a 29er.

Burry rides a full suspension, not a soft tail. All those bikes mentioned the none of them make soft tails.Mampara2009-10-22 05:37:19

I have done the epic and the nandos magalies on my HT,and I would rethink it after I had a couple of rides on a softtail......

Simple truth of the matter is, if you do it on a hard tail you would need to be a lot fitter and your core should be rock solid. You are standing a lot more on the pedals and generally working much harder. you are also riding a better line and not just bombing over everything in your way.

I've raced my hardtail for 100k's marathons and it starts to bite after 75+k's.

Did Sani2C this year on my Meta4.1 dualsus - what a breeze, climbed no problem, really enjoyed the race.
