Get yourself a "distro" (distribution) such as Fedora, OpenSuSE or Ubuntu and try that. I have my kids and parents on it and they are happy. Lots of free software and no viruses or spyware. You can even download "Live" CDs where you can run the OS from a CDROM without installing it to your PC to try out. It can quite frustrating (and was very frustrating then), but now Itear out my hair everytime I have to use a Windows box. There'sNO apps with it (Linux gives you office suites, games, programmingtools, frikkin' EVERYTHING out of the box). I look at a Windows box and wonder what the hell I can do with it. The frustration is that some software will ONLY run under Windows(my Garmin stuff, for example). It's frustrating keeping a Windows boxalive purely to get my GPS software updated!
