Dirty Chick' date=' Why bring the Road thingy into it? Not nice.

The two pictures posted here are indeed a source of inspiration and wonderment at His work.

I will be in Port Alfred this December - cannot wait to take my ROAD BIKE out for a ride. I might just be able to see something interesting?

Was in Port Alfred last month - word of warning - lots of potholes and the EL - PE road is really hectic (trucks, no yellow line etc) - Confused might be safer on the Mtn Bike - lots of farm roads to ride on Wink

What is this thing you call Mtn Bike?smiley17.gif

A mountain bike or mountain bicycle (abbreviated MTB or ATB (all terrain bicycle)) is a bicycle created and made for off-road cycling, including jumps, and traversing of rocks and washouts, and steep declines, on dirt trails, logging roads, and other unpaved environments:mdash;activities usually called mountain biking.

These bicycles need to be able to withstand the stresses of off-road

use with obstacles such as logs and rocks. Most mountain bikes use

wheels with rims which are 559mm in ISO sizing, colloquially referred

to as "26-inch", although the term is inaccurate as it covers too many

rim and tyre sizes to be meaningful. Wheels

used on mountain bikes usually use wide, knobby tires for good traction

on uneven terrain and shock absorption. In the current century front

wheel suspension

has become the norm and full front and rear suspension has become

increasingly common. Some mountain bikes are also fitted with bar ends on the handlebars to give extra leverage for hill-climbing.

Ja - Ja! Wickedpedia et al!

I don't have the luxury of coastlines, rolling mountains drenched in mist (poetic hey?). I live on the East Rand in Gauteng.  My story is somewhat different.

On the way home from doing my Atlas Road loop, I saw 2 Egyptian geese take off and fly toward me. I thought to myself that this is an awesome sight and the sounds they make, while not exactly melodious, were a welcome diversion for the day.

All of a skielik one of them has the urge to have a bowel movement in mid flight, coming straight at me. I was stuck in no-man's land - do i try and grab a handful of brakes and possibly get hit by a deluge of pooh, or try and pedal like hell to speed up, and possibly get hit by a deluge of pooh.

Luckily, while I was still trying to decide on what to do, the jettisoned "ballast" missed me. I thought that seeing as the goose missed me, I hoped that this would continue throughout the day. My boss was not on the same page as the geese however.

About 2 or 3 kilometres further toward home, I looked up a street joining the one I was on from the left hand side. To my utter amazement, I saw a dassie on the road.

I was not sufficiently motivated to grab two handfuls of brake and stopped. This bugger looked at me like I was the odd-one out and then trotted over to what I surmise is his/her home (a storm water drain), and then continued to stare at me.

A dassie in Atlasville on the East Rand? Did someone "nick" him in Cape Town and keep him as a pet only to have him escape later on, or is his Garmin "op die koffie" and he is merely lost?

See? Different, but still interesting.
